David Read:
Welcome everyone to Dial the Gate: The Stargate Oral History Project podcast]. It is a podcast. My name is David Read. I really appreciate you being here with me for this one. I apologize we’re starting a little bit later than usual ’cause I had to figure some things out. Guys, frankly, I think Destiny might be trying to dial in from a star or something because this solar flare activity is really causing some strange things to be happening. Yvie, how are you?

Yvie Cahill:
Yes. I’m good. I’m really pleased to be here at what is a semi-decent hour for a Sunday in Australia.

David Read:
6:12 in the morning, I think.

Yvie Cahill:
7:12.

David Read:
It is. That’s right. ‘Cause you’re 14 hours ahead now.

Yvie Cahill:
Yes. Thrilled to be here with you guys.

David Read:
You look …

Yvie Cahill:
It’s gonna be fun.

David Read:
… summery and fantastic.

Yvie Cahill:
Aw, thank you.

David Read:
It is summer down there, isn’t it? Getting ready to be.

Yvie Cahill:
Unfortunately. No. Officially as of seven days ago. It’s the time of year that I hate the most, so I have to try and survive the next six months.

David Read:
That’s it. Do the best you can with what you’ve got. Marcia Middleton.

Marcia Middleton:
Hi.

David Read:
Hello, ma’am. How are you?

Marcia Middleton:
I’m doing great, thank you. I’m happy to be here.

David Read:
So, we missed you for our fan roundtable.

Marcia Middleton:
Yes.

David Read:
And Stargate is back and it has …

Marcia Middleton:
Yay.

David Read:
… the original creators involved as executive producers. What are your thoughts about this?

Marcia Middleton:
My heart, I tell you. Every time you even mention it, my heart starts beating faster. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am. I actually saw Stargate originally in the theater six times.

David Read:
You’re an OG.

Marcia Middleton:
And the first time, I just knew it was gonna add something to my life and change it. It has brought so much and I hope I’ve brought a little bit to the fandom as well.

David Read:
You have. Absolutely. Tommy Valentine, how are you, buddy?

Tommy Valentine:
I am great. I’m tired, but great. How are you, David?

David Read:
I am well. How’s the little bundle doing?

Tommy Valentine:
He’s doing good. I’m tactically napping every chance I get, really.

David Read:
This is the second time I’ve heard that term, tactically napping.

Tommy Valentine:
The tactical nap.

David Read:
The tactical nap. Is it more than a strategic nap? Or is that the same kinda thing, like philosophers and sorcerers over there?

Tommy Valentine:
It takes strategy to get to the timing of your tactical nap. One feeds into the other, I would say. It’s been a real learning process the last month, but it’s been great.

David Read:
Good deal. I appreciate you guys being here. It’s funny that we are actually starting off with something very similar, Tommy. So, this is the second anniversary of our Stargate Fan Creations 2025 show. These are not necessarily things that we’re revealing that fans made in 2025, although most are, but we can’t verify it. These are things that I found and Yvie found in 2025 that were made by fans.

Yvie Cahill:
Yes.

David Read:
All creative. Different levels of– Complexity is not the right word, and quality is not either. Help me out, Yvie. What’s the word that I’m wanting? It’s different levels of expertise, I guess?

Yvie Cahill:
Expertise? Yeah.

David Read:
But all, I think, really have some kind of–

Yvie Cahill:
Difficulty, I guess?

David Read:
Exactly.

Yvie Cahill:
To a certain extent.

David Read:
Some of this, people probably pushed a button and it printed something out, but they had an idea. And others, they took potentially months on, in one case, a chess set that, quite frankly, blew my mind. I’m gonna share that with you guys in a little bit here. But you all should have the list in front of you?

Yvie Cahill:
Yes, correct.

Marcia Middleton:
Yes.

David Read:
OK. So, I’m gonna go clockwise on my screen here, round robin. So, Yvie, Tommy, Marcia, skip myself because I’m actually showing the stuff. This is how we’ll do it. And if there is a relevant note at the top of the post where the link is, if you think that it will add to the discussion, we’re gonna go ahead and do that. I will mention the person who created it and what the item is. But guys, follow me through, OK?

Marcia Middleton:
OK.

Yvie Cahill:
Absolutely.

David Read:
So, do you guys have the first one up?

Marcia Middleton:
Sure do.

Yvie Cahill:
I do.

David Read:
Perfect. Let’s start sharing. Actually, you know what? Tommy, let’s start with you.

Marcia Middleton:
Perfect.

Yvie Cahill:
Yes, that makes sense.

David Read:
This is related. So someone had an SG baby. Can you share? I’m going to have to– OK, it’s Katjana from New Jersey. It’s Katjana’s baby. Tommy, what have we got here? I guess I’ve just disclosed it.

Tommy Valentine:
This is incredible. It’s actually made me really jealous because I didn’t do this. And I should’ve done this. This is brilliant.

Yvie Cahill:
There’s still time, Tommy.

Tommy Valentine:
There is still time. Yes. They’re three weeks old, and no place like home. And the most remarkable outfit. That must be the earliest cosplay going. At three weeks old?

David Read:
Absolutely.

Yvie Cahill:
It has to be.

David Read:
With a onezie?

Yvie Cahill:
I’d say as well …

David Read:
An SG onezie?

Yvie Cahill:
… the little vest, that looks to be crocheted to me.

Yvie Cahill:
As a crochet.

David Read:
Yes.

Marcia Middleton:
I think you’re right.

Yvie Cahill:
So, I think maybe mom has made that one? And the parents appear to have the Earth symbol tattoo as well.

David Read:
Where?

Marcia Middleton:
On the inside of their wrists.

Yvie Cahill:
On the inside of their wrists.

David Read:
Let’s go to the other pictures here. That’s right.

Yvie Cahill:
They’re holding baby’s hands.

David Read:
Aw. How sweet.

Yvie Cahill:
Aw.

David Read:
This is so friggin’ adorable.

Yvie Cahill:
A little SGC member.

Marcia Middleton:
I see a kind of Hammond look there.

David Read:
Very much. It’s George Hammond reincarnated. But the greeting, the baby announcement, “Incoming traveler,” it’s perfect.

Yvie Cahill:
I love that. It is perfect. What a brilliant way to start the year. January.

David Read:
Congratulations to Katjana.

Marcia Middleton:
Congratulations.

David Read:
We had to start off with that little bundle of good news.

David Read:
What do we have next? Marcia, what are we gonna look at?

Marcia Middleton:
Let’s see.

David Read:
Tiana Barbin has something. What’s she got?

Marcia Middleton:
Tiana has a Stargate tattoo.

David Read:
Really? Let’s see here. Look at the detail.

Marcia Middleton:
It looks like the water is–

David Read:
The puddle.

Marcia Middleton:
Event Horizon is actually floating.

David Read:
Flying.

Marcia Middleton:
I could touch it …

Yvie Cahill:
It does.

Marcia Middleton:
… and it would move.

David Read:
That is wild.

Yvie Cahill:
And the way that they’ve captured the light reflecting off the water is actually quite brilliant.

Marcia Middleton:
And Tiana says …

Yvie Cahill:
The colors.

Marcia Middleton:
… “Got my new Stargate tattoo today. It’s not fully finished, but after sitting for nearly seven hours, I was ready to finish.”

David Read:
What?

Marcia Middleton:
“It just needs the white added to the middle.”

David Read:
OK. I was like, “What needs to…” And then I was like, “OK, I can see.” That is wild. And “There’s no place like,” and then they’ve got the gate address.

Tommy Valentine:
And the symbols are glowing as well.

Yvie Cahill:
The detail is amazing.

David Read:
They are.

Tommy Valentine:
The lighting. They’re properly glowing.

David Read:
This can’t be hand-done. This has gotta be by some kind of …

Yvie Cahill:
A magician.

David Read:
… a system or a magician or a savant tattoo artist.

Marcia Middleton:
I hope they get a chance to see the finished one.

Yvie Cahill:
And the actual symbols are completely legible as well.

David Read:
They are.

Yvie Cahill:
Around the entire ring. That would’ve taken …

David Read:
This is meticulous.

Yvie Cahill:
… so much patience.

David Read:
A lot of sitting.

Marcia Middleton:
Great work.

Yvie Cahill:
Seven hours is epic. I’ve only got one tattoo, and I’ve just got the Earth symbol, and that was 15 minutes …

David Read:
Where’s your tattoo?

Yvie Cahill:
… and I was done. It’s on my ankle.

David Read:
Where’s your tattoo? It’s on your ankle, OK.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s on my ankle.

David Read:
I’m gonna get a Starfleet Delta, I think, here, at some point. But that’s about it.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s a good spot.

David Read:
You notice anything about the address? I always have to bring this up. I have to be …

Yvie Cahill:
I know.

David Read:
… quibble.

Yvie Cahill:
I know what it is. It’s the symbol at the end, the Earth symbol, ’cause it’d be like dialing yourself?

David Read:
Yes, it’s–

David Read:
This is what Sam does in “Solitudes.” You get a busy signal. But I still love the design. So, it’s really cool.

David Read:
Jakub Olejarz, he’s our lead archivist, he has Destiny, so the nine-symbol address on his left forearm. And then Kevin Weaver, my producer, he’s got the Earth tattoo here, the Earth symbol there.

Yvie Cahill:
And Nicole also has the Earth symbol on her forearm.

David Read:
She does?

Yvie Cahill:
Yes.

David Read:
OK. Did you guys both get them at the same–

Yvie Cahill:
It’s an itty-bitty one. No, I actually got mine before her, I think. I randomly got mine with my mother-in-law. We both have the same tattoo.

David Read:
All right, there you go. Perfect. Yvie, we’ve got something from CG.

Yvie Cahill:
CG, let me open up CG’s post.

David Read:
Yes, please.

Yvie Cahill:
OK, wow, I haven’t seen this one before.

David Read:
Do me a favor and load things before if you can.

Yvie Cahill:
Yes, my apologies.

David Read:
Or at least start the process. No, you’ve been very bad, Yvie.

Yvie Cahill:
Sorry. CG, they said in the Facebook post, “Displayed my Stargate model railroad module as part of a huge operating layout at the Great Scale Model Train Show in Maryland.” Wow.

David Read:
This is so friggin’ awesome. I mean it, seriously.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s incredible.

Marcia Middleton:
I’m clicking on that.

Yvie Cahill:
There’s the little people excavating.

David Read:
If it’s far back enough, it’s almost real.

Yvie Cahill:
I’m not focusing too hard on it, and it looks completely 3D.

Marcia Middleton:
Are we sure there aren’t people …

Yvie Cahill:
That’s incredible.

Marcia Middleton:
… actually moving in there? Are we absolutely sure?

David Read:
I don’t know, I feel like Will Smith in …

Marcia Middleton:
Because I think there may be.

David Read:
… what is it, I Am Legend, with the mannequins? It’s a little creepy there.

Yvie Cahill:
Also, guys, the last person on the far right …

David Read:
Is it Indy?

Yvie Cahill:
… is that Indy?

David Read:
Spoilers.

Yvie Cahill:
Because that’s the Ark of the Covenant, isn’t it?

Marcia Middleton:
Oh my God.

David Read:
I think he’s holding the idol.

Marcia Middleton:
That’s amazing.

Yvie Cahill:
What?

David Read:
Geez, nice little Easter egg there.

Marcia Middleton:
Well done.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s cheeky, but I love it. That is fantastic.

Tommy Valentine:
Great spot.

David Read:
It’s a little later in the game. Indy, it’d be a little late.

Yvie Cahill:
Indy was, what, 30s, 40s? Around World War II.

David Read:
Around ’40, ’41, exactly. Definitely, for sure. So, Mike in Wales– Tommy, I actually just spoiled it for the viewers. Can you pull up what Mike made in Wales?

Tommy Valentine:
I certainly can. Mike actually bought a laser engraver for his small business and decided to make up some cushions… not cushions, excuse me.

Marcia Middleton:
I wouldn’t wanna sit on these.

Tommy Valentine:
He would not wanna sit on these. They are–

Marcia Middleton:
They’re kinda cold.

Tommy Valentine:
What do you call that?

Yvie Cahill:
Tiles.

Tommy Valentine:
It’s like tiles.

David Read:
Coasters.

Tommy Valentine:
Maybe.

David Read:
They’re drink coasters.

Yvie Cahill:
Coasters.

Tommy Valentine:
They’re coasters.

Yvie Cahill:
Coasters.

David Read:
I love these. These are …

Tommy Valentine:
They look really cool.

David Read:
… so friggin’ cool. I’m not a drinker, but if I was, I’d want some.

Yvie Cahill:
You could put any cold beverage on those, though.

David Read:
That’s true.

Yvie Cahill:
Doesn’t have to be alcoholic.

David Read:
I would love a set of these. I’ll pay you for ’em, man, ’cause these are friggin’ cool. So impressive.

Yvie Cahill:
‘Cause it’s like what I have. I have the cork ones [from] a different creator. They’re up there. I have cork coasters which I’ve cut up in order to put into frames that were a little bit too tiny. But these are amazing.

David Read:
Hopefully, inside a year and a half, he’ll have a fourth one made to complete the Stargate set, whenever we get our new Stargate.

Yvie Cahill:
Yay!

David Read:
I will bet money that there will be a new Stargate featured in this new show.

Yvie Cahill:
There has to be.

Tommy Valentine:
There has to be.

David Read:
Every new show has introduced a new gate. It’s all there is to it.

Yvie Cahill:
Slightly different iteration.

Tommy Valentine:
It’s part of the fun. You get to design a new gate, that’s the fun of it.

David Read:
That’s exactly right. Martin’s not gonna skip the opportunity to have a new gate.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s basically the main character, so you get a different …

David Read:
Arguably so.

Yvie Cahill:
… main character in each series.

David Read:
Did you guys hear what Mark Nicholson said about the design for the Destiny glyphs? How that was based?

Yvie Cahill:
No.

David Read:
‘Cause this was a big reveal to me. The reason that they are different dots and lines and squiggles and all kinds of things, they actually devised a coordinate system using the dots and the lines and the squiggles because Destiny changes position as it travels, so they actually created — it works out — coordinate system based on the symbols so that as the ship moved across the cosmos, they would be able to realistically pinpoint its exact location using a certain series of coordinates as the coordinates evolved. I thought that was brilliant. All right?

Yvie Cahill:
That’s some really deep thinking.

Tommy Valentine:
So smart, they are so smart.

David Read:
I know. All right. And then, Marcia, we have something from Nenod in Spain.

Tommy Valentine:
Yes. A 3D gate. And he says, “I just finished assembling this beauty. It took me a month to 3D print it.”

David Read:
That is a lot of Stargate.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s some dedication. And lots of patience. It’s like hula hoop shaped.

Tommy Valentine:
We could hula hoop with that.

David Read:
Yes!

Tommy Valentine:
Great mind.

Tommy Valentine:
A Stargate hula hoop.

David Read:
That’s right, guys. I don’t know.

Tommy Valentine:
That sounds dangerous, if it was a real Stargate.

David Read:
That is a lot of, what is it called, filaments? Is that what you put into it? That’s nuts.

Tommy Valentine:
Yeah, I think so.

Yvie Cahill:
I don’t have a 3D printer, so I’m not sure. I wonder if it rotates. I’m assuming the ring is fixed.

Tommy Valentine:
It looks like it’s fixed.

David Read:
I would suspect so.

Yvie Cahill:
But the detail is incredible.

Yvie Cahill:
I wonder if that’s an actual address, if he’s chosen a fixed location, and the address matches up with a planet that’s been visited on the show.

David Read:
The glyphs don’t stay in place. They continue to spin freely with the rest of it.

Yvie Cahill:
I guess.

David Read:
That’s the thing that always bothered me. Because of the number of the chevrons, they don’t necessarily line up.

Yvie Cahill:
No, they don’t.

David Read:
Three out of the nine do line up.

Marcia Middleton:
I see that, yes.

David Read:
And the rest don’t. Well done. Not to steal his thunder but Martin McClean over at gatebuilder.tech, he also has one available, 3D-printed. And I think you can change the scale of it. I’m not entirely sure.

Yvie Cahill:
That is cool.

David Read:
That is pretty legit. So, let me pull this up here real quick. Number six, 3D4048. What is this one, Yvie?

Yvie Cahill:
So, I believe that this one is the incredible chess set.

David Read:
This blew my friggin’ doors off. Check this thing out.

Yvie Cahill:
Wow.

Tommy Valentine:
Oh my God.

Yvie Cahill:
That is so cool. I love that they’ve taken a video rather than just a photo.

Tommy Valentine:
I’m such a chess fan as well.

David Read:
Look at them, they are.

Tommy Valentine:
I’m so jealous. Huge, huge.

David Read:
I am definitely not gonna fancy myself a chess player– I can play, but badly. And look at the little letters on them. I didn’t even know that.

Yvie Cahill:
I am not strategic enough for this. [inaudible]

David Read:
So, rook, knight … OK, that’s what that’s for.

Yvie Cahill:
That is cool, actually, looking at it.

David Read:
Look how cool that is.

Yvie Cahill:
The pyramids and have made it gold.

David Read:
That’s right.

Tommy Valentine:
I would pay very good money for that. I would really want that.

David Read:
I would love a Stargate chess set. And I love that the pieces make sense. You’ve got F-302s and gliders as the pawns. And then you’ve got Asgard motherships on one side and different kinds of Ha’taks on the other. And you’ve got also a couple of cargo ships to invoke the free Jaffa on one side, and on the other side, they also have cargo ships as well. So, it all makes sense, it all tracks. And the fact that you’ve got Anubis and Apophis there, represented in their ships. This is just one of the coolest things I’ve seen.

Yvie Cahill:
It is very cool.

Marcia Middleton:
And Ra’s ship.

David Read:
Ra’s ship, yep, on either end.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s an Asgard ship as well, isn’t it?

David Read:
Yeah. So, you’ve got the O’Neill, is on the end. The O’Neill is where … heck, what’s the B? Rook, knight–

Tommy Valentine:
Bishop.

David Read:
The bishops.

Yvie Cahill:
Bishops.

David Read:
Yeah, the bishops are the O’Neills. And then you’ve got the rooks as the Asgard motherships, just the classic design. Really extremely cool. And that’s 3D4048.

Yvie Cahill:
Love that.

David Read:
I reached out to them, let them know, “Hey, we’re featuring your stuff.” And me and TikTok, we’re not that good with each other. I can’t … it’s complicated.

Yvie Cahill:
Failure acquaintances.

David Read:
And the Jaffa lions are in the black squares. And they’re in the white ones too.

Marcia Middleton:
I see them.

David Read:
Look at that. Mind-blowing work.

Marcia Middleton:
Beautiful.

David Read:
So good. All right. What else do we got?

Yvie Cahill:
It gets me almost wanna play chess.

David Read:
So, was that Marcia, was that you?

Marcia Middleton:
That was Yvie. Yvie, was that you?

David Read:
Was that Yvie?

Yvie Cahill:
Yes.

David Read:
Is it Tommy’s turn?

Tommy Valentine:
It’s me.

David Read:
It’s up to you, buddy.

Tommy Valentine:
So, we have something else I’m incredibly jealous of, which is Caroline’s … Carolyn…?

David Read:
Either or.

Tommy Valentine:
Carolyn’s husband’s 50th birthday cake, which is so good.

David Read:
So are you jealous of the design, or are you jealous of the fact that he’s made it to 50 and you haven’t yet? Inquiring minds. I’m just saying.

Tommy Valentine:
I’m gonna make sure I get my wife to make me this cake for my 50th first. I’ll be forwarding this …

Yvie Cahill:
Put your order in now.

Tommy Valentine:
… link right on.

Marcia Middleton:
Put her on notice.

David Read:
This is really cool.

Tommy Valentine:
That is incredible.

David Read:
Nothing beats handmade.

Tommy Valentine:
So true.

Yvie Cahill:
I’ve done a little bit of cake decorating in my past, nothing that intricate- … but I am in awe of the detail here. I love that they’ve used, I guess some sort of glaze to make the water look like it’s shimmering.

Tommy Valentine:
Shiny.

David Read:
So, probably when you walk around it, you can see the light reflecting off of the edges. But it’s exceptionally cool.

Yvie Cahill:
And the Scarab beetle.

Marcia Middleton:
Scarabs, yes.

David Read:
They never really used that part of the mythology in the show. They kind of did with R-75, but they didn’t really reference it, and it didn’t really have to do with Egypt.

Marcia Middleton:
Next series.

David Read:
Next series.

Yvie Cahill:
There’s definitely room to include that.

David Read:
For sure.

Yvie Cahill:
And are they System Lord symbols around the outer rim of the cake?

David Read:
You’ve got an Ankh on the right of the last image. And that represents eternal life. And then you’ve basically got the Apophis, the snake symbol, and then this A over here. I’m not sure what the A is. Or what is that? What kind of a symbol is that?

Yvie Cahill:
Maybe it means something.

Marcia Middleton:
Is that a star symbol maybe?

Yvie Cahill:
[inaudible]

David Read:
It’s possible. Looks like it’s running off somewhere.

Marcia Middleton:
It looks familiar.

David Read:
It does.

Marcia Middleton:
It looks familiar.

David Read:
It’s very cool. They did a great job.

Yvie Cahill:
I wouldn’t wanna cut it up. I wouldn’t wanna eat it.

David Read:
I’m not gonna take the first bite. For sure.

Yvie Cahill:
So, whoever made that is an artist.

David Read:
Yes. All right, Marcia. The next one is in-house, from our own buddy, Lockwatcher. He has devised… What has he created?

Marcia Middleton:
He has a board game. I love board games. They’re so tactile …

David Read:
Really?

Marcia Middleton:
… and fun. You can sit and play, and you elbow each other.

David Read:
And Pop-Tarts. He’s displayed Pop-Tarts with his board game for some reason.

Marcia Middleton:
He says, “A couple of years back, I designed a 3D printed game based on Stargate. It turned out very cool, and was even entered into a Prusa contest. It was quite a lot of design work in my rush to complete it. It played more like Stargate Monopoly, including Naquadah bricks for trades. I’m currently updating both the design and the rules, and hope to finish the new one this year.”

David Read:
It’s the end of 2025, so Lockwatcher, I want one. And I think that the next convention where we all get together, I’m not kidding, I want to play this because– “You were caught off guard by Vala’s father. Lose three Naquadah bricks.” So someone with that level of knowledge of the IP, that’s gonna be cool. This is insane.

Yvie Cahill:
Wow. This is so awesome.

David Read:
Right?

Marcia Middleton:
It looks like there are a lot more pictures to see.
Yes,
David Read:
I’m going through ’em right now. You have all the gate symbols, and I think you’re represented by a square color as you go around.

Yvie Cahill:
Little Naquadah generators, it’s so cute.

David Read:
And the GDOs. But this is really fine work. I saw him post the transport rings before, and I was like, “Well, that’s interesting.” But now I know it’s associated with something, the sarcophagus, sarcophagi, and the different generators. This whole set is really–

Yvie Cahill:
That’s amazing.

David Read:
He’s thought it completely through.

Yvie Cahill:
That is perfect.

Marcia Middleton:
We’ll probably need three at a convention.

Yvie Cahill:
We could get mass production.

David Read:
Probably.

Yvie Cahill:
Let’s get mass production going.

David Read:
He’s also, I swear, got an IQ of 150. So, it’s entirely possible that we could sit down and play this thing and it would go over all of our heads. But it’s really cool.

Marcia Middleton:
We’ve learned something.

David Read:
Probably. Exactly. So, Yvie, are you up or … I think you’re up.

Yvie Cahill:
Yes. Is it me?

David Read:
Yeah. ‘Cause I can’t keep track.

Marcia Middleton:
That was me. I was last.

Yvie Cahill:
OK, that was you? All right.

David Read:
Perfect. What have we got?

Yvie Cahill:
So, I have a post from Heath.

David Read:
Heath Rushing.

Yvie Cahill:
Heath. They said, “Finished printing my Ori gate today.” And then, “Hallowed are the Ori.” Wow.

Marcia Middleton:
Wow.

Yvie Cahill:
That is so cool.

David Read:
You know what? Hang on just a second here. One second. Hang on, guys. Sorry. Una momento por favor. OK, this is nine?

Marcia Middleton:
Mm-hmm.

David Read:
Is it nine? OK. Ori Stargates.

Yvie Cahill:
Yep. Nine. [inaudible]

David Read:
Look at this.

Yvie Cahill:
I love it.

David Read:
Again, going back to my quibbles from the show, is that in the background for the concept art for the end of season nine, James C.D. Robbins designed this scene of the Ori warriors and created this artwork for, I think it was maybe in the end of Season 9, maybe in the beginning of Season 10, the Ori warriors burning a forest down, or as it looked. And with a Milky Way Stargate behind them. And the Stargates were designed after Amelius left the Ori galaxy. So, had they developed Stargate technology, they would’ve developed it independently. And this looks like an Ori Stargate would have looked. In my opinion. It would’ve been built around their religion. Keep in mind that we saw the transport rings and they were white. So, this takes a page from that. And it’s exceptionally cool. I love this thing. This is another one of those that I would really love to display in my background, because it’s really cool.

Yvie Cahill:
Very cool. I actually love the simplicity of the colors that he used. The blue really pops.

David Read:
The blue pops. That’s exactly right.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s incredibly detailed.

David Read:
And look at the backside too. He’s taken elements from the Milky Way and Atlantis gates.

Marcia Middleton:
It looks sinister.

David Read:
Exactly. It does.

Yvie Cahill:
It does look sinister.

David Read:
Those spikes with the chevrons, if one fell on you, you wouldn’t get up too fast.

Yvie Cahill:
They’re very sharp.

David Read:
They’re very sharp. It’s really cool.

Yvie Cahill:
I’d be standing back, for sure.

David Read:
Exactly. Thomas.

Tommy Valentine:
Wendy’s Stargate has arrived, and it looks like … What do you call this? This is paving? Is that what you’d call that?

David Read:
This is outdoor patio flooring, if you can believe this.

Tommy Valentine:
Patio.

David Read:
This is wild. And I was like, “Am I gonna put patio flooring …

Yvie Cahill:
The cover stone?

David Read:
… in this as a category?” Yes, because whoever this was went all out for their deck, or actually, I guess it’s just a backyard, because they created Stargate rocks, or I guess those may be cement bricks, and then a cover stone design where the puddle would be, and then a DHD in the dead center where the rest of the cover stone would be. This is so cool. I love this.

Tommy Valentine:
The craftsmanship is incredible. And how satisfying must it have been putting all these pieces …

David Read:
Locking ’em together?

Tommy Valentine:
… together?

Yvie Cahill:
I’d be having a rule for people on my patio moving forward. No brown liquids, no red wine or Coke or anything like that. I wouldn’t want anything spilled on it.

David Read:
That’s it. I’d love to have a barbecue out here on this thing.

Yvie Cahill:
That is so awesome.

David Read:
It’s so cool.

Yvie Cahill:
I immediately want this in my backyard.

Tommy Valentine:
I wanna learn a new trade.

David Read:
No kidding.

Tommy Valentine:
I wanna make this.

David Read:
For sure. You’ve got one, two, three, four, five, six. Are these the–

Yvie Cahill:
Pieces.

David Read:
Is that Abydos? Where is that? OK, you’ve got Ursa Major or Minor, you’ve got Orion. I don’t think Ursa Major or Minor are on the Stargate, so these on the outer edge here I think are just constellations.

Marcia Middleton:
That’s what they look like.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s custom.

David Read:
That’s it. You can add extra constellations.

Yvie Cahill:
I actually love that they’ve done the cover stone rather than …

David Read:
The style?

Yvie Cahill:
… the puddle.

David Read:
For sure.

Marcia Middleton:
I’m thinking they might be doing something else in addition to this. This is the centerpiece perhaps, and I’d love to see the finished background, the whole patio.

David Read:
For sure. You know what this is? This is how husband and wife stay married. ‘Cause if husband wants a new patio set for barbecues, wife is gonna get her favorite show built right into it. That’s all I’m saying.

Marcia Middleton:
Loving it. Loving it.

David Read:
That’s exactly right.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s a good compromise.

David Read:
It is.

Yvie Cahill:
That is a good compromise.

David Read:
But it cleaned up really nicely. And it’s not enormous. You could probably take one giant leap across it, so it’s not too bad, with the little masonry thing here shown to scale. But all of it… This is a custom design that is really, really great.

Tommy Valentine:
Looks like it was made by a team called Pave Art, and it’s six feet by six feet round.

David Read:
Pave Art? OK.

Tommy Valentine:
Pave Art in New Jersey.

David Read:
Pave Art in New Jersey.

Tommy Valentine:
It’s what they say in the comments.

Yvie Cahill:
Wow, shout out to them.

David Read:
Wow. In the YouTube comments or in the comments on the Facebook?

Tommy Valentine:
In the Facebook.

David Read:
OK. That’s really cool.

Yvie Cahill:
It’d be cool if there was …

Tommy Valentine:
Six foot by six foot.

Yvie Cahill:
… a sundial.

David Read:
It is definitely not small, for sure. All right, who’s up next?

Yvie Cahill:
I think the next one doesn’t have a speaking link.

Marcia Middleton:
I am, but I don’t see a link.

David Read:
OK. Is this the SteelBook cases?

Yvie Cahill:
This is the SteelBook, yes.

Marcia Middleton:
It’s the SteelBook, yes.

David Read:
So, this is Matt Nevin’s SteelBook images. I’m gonna share those. I’ll go ahead and do this one. Matt’s a friend of mine. He wanted his own custom SteelBook artwork for his DVDs and his Blu-rays. So, he went and created original art using existing assets in some cases and put them all together and made these SteelBook sets. Then he cut ’em out and they are so frigging cool. A lot of them combine concept art. Actually all three of them do here, and he took the Stargate that was originally made by EMG for the Stargate Atlantis one on the cover. This is a really cool set. It’s another expression of …

Yvie Cahill:
That’s incredible.

David Read:
… of clever ingenuity and creativity.

Yvie Cahill:
I love it. I love the different pictures inside of the Stargates. That’s really, really awesome.

David Read:
For sure. Is it Marcia’s turn now?

Marcia Middleton:
It is.

David Read:
OK.

Marcia Middleton:
Julia has created a plushy pattern for the Iratus bug.

Yvie Cahill:
I know.

David Read:
Julia, girl.

Yvie Cahill:
How cool is this?

David Read:
Let’s pull this up, just a second here.

Marcia Middleton:
Oh my goodness. What have you done?

David Read:
Pull this up here.

Yvie Cahill:
How cool is this? I think there might’ve been a follow-up post for this one, but that is amazing.

Marcia Middleton:
People are loving it too.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s so clever.

David Read:
Of all things to make a plushy out of, and yet I still definitely want one because–

Yvie Cahill:
I wanna give it a hug.

Marcia Middleton:
I want you to have one.

David Read:
Exactly. Thank you. Just suck the life right out of me.

Tommy Valentine:
It wants to give you a hug as well.

David Read:
That’s funny.

Yvie Cahill:
That is incredible.

David Read:
Someone made a suggestion, put …

Yvie Cahill:
I love it.

David Read:
… wire in the arms so it can hug you …

Marcia Middleton:
Hug you tight.

David Read:
… and stick around for a really long time.

Yvie Cahill:
I want a body-pillow-sized Iratus bug. That’d be really cool.

David Read:
Can you imagine a giant Iratus bug like that in Atlantis? Man, I never would’ve slept again.

Yvie Cahill:
Yep, that’s scary.

David Read:
I don’t think that’s gonna happen, man.

Marcia Middleton:
My, my.

David Read:
Gosh. What do we have next, Yvie?

Marcia Middleton:
Love fandom.

Yvie Cahill:
All right. The next one that we have is from Andrew. Now, I think this is incomplete at the moment, but I thought the idea was really, really cool. Andrew says that their girlfriend’s sister is a jeweler and they gave her some pearls to work with, and they’ve made a cast, and the finished product, I don’t think we’ve seen just yet, but I thought it looked really promising.

David Read:
Stargate pearl.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s very cool. I think it’s gonna look really awesome when it’s finished.

David Read:
This is cool.

Yvie Cahill:
I don’t know what it is, if it’s gonna be a pendant or if it’s gonna be a ring. I think …

David Read:
This is definitely gonna be a Stargate.

Yvie Cahill:
… Marcia’s actually commented on this.

David Read:
Marcia did?

Yvie Cahill:
Yeah.

David Read:
What’d you have to say, Marcia? You’re here, aren’t ya.

Marcia Middleton:
Yeah. I said it’s beautiful and I’m looking forward to seeing when it’s finished.

David Read:
This is one that Yvie added.

Yvie Cahill:
I love that they’re using pearls, something natural …

Marcia Middleton:
I like that too.

Yvie Cahill:
… to accentuate the Stargate. It’s really cool.

Marcia Middleton:
Pearls have such iridescence and …

David Read:
Like a Stargate.

Marcia Middleton:
… you can look into them.

Yvie Cahill:
Yes, they’re shimmery.

David Read:
You can look inside of them?

Marcia Middleton:
I think you can see inside of them …

Yvie Cahill:
Reflectance.

Marcia Middleton:
… because they have so many layers.

David Read:
That’s a good point. There we go. All right.

Marcia Middleton:
Beautiful.

David Read:
What’s next? It is–

Tommy Valentine:
Next from–

Marcia Middleton:
Tommy, tommy.

Tommy Valentine:
From Christian we’ve got — this was something that was a gift for a friend — 24-karat gold-plated brass from old coins and the saddest part about this is that it’s not for sale.

David Read:
Yep, they were very clear about that.

Tommy Valentine:
That is a real shame because they’re gorgeous.

Marcia Middleton:
You’re not getting it.

Tommy Valentine:
It’s gorgeous.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s amazing.

David Read:
It’s so gorgeous. This is a 21.9 or greater camera that took this, either that or they’re really interesting about cropping images, but this is one of the coolest Stargate items I have seen, and out of all of them, except for the infant, this is probably worth the most out of the pocket.

Tommy Valentine:
Except for the infant.

Yvie Cahill:
For sure. You can’t put a price on the baby

David Read:
That’s my point.

Yvie Cahill:
… obviously. But this is …

David Read:
But look at that.

Yvie Cahill:
… amazing. I actually love that they’ve made the choice to photograph it against something organic, what could be buried.

David Read:
It would’ve been… Was lost but now it’s been found in the sands of Giza.

Yvie Cahill:
And perfectly preserved.

David Read:
Perfectly preserved. Like Kayoda.

Tommy Valentine:
Trying to figure out the size of it, because the detail on it is really high …

David Read:
I know.

Tommy Valentine:
… for how small it looks considering the–

David Read:
The rocks behind it look small. It can’t be-… that large. It’s gotta be just a few centimeters across. What do you think, Tommy?

Tommy Valentine:
There’s so much detail in the lines in the chevrons and things like that.

Yvie Cahill:
Precise.

Tommy Valentine:
I suppose it was from a coin. Is that the–

David Read:
Exactly.

Yvie Cahill:
From a coin.

David Read:
I suspect it was from more than [one]. I don’t think it could have been just one.

Yvie Cahill:
They said coins.

David Read:
Exactly. But the indentations and everything else–

Yvie Cahill:
So, it’s melting?

David Read:
I suppose.

Yvie Cahill:
He smelt them.

David Read:
It’s some kind of a crucible.

Yvie Cahill:
But I really appreciate that they’ve up-cycled some coins.

David Read:
Yex, absolutely. All right, Marcia. What have we got?

Marcia Middleton:
We have an eight-inch Stargate rotating inner ring by Nate Dogg at Maple World.

David Read:
Nate Dogg. Wow.

Yvie Cahill:
So, this isn’t a Facebook post. This is actually …

David Read:
No, this is a link.

Yvie Cahill:
… a post of the creator’s files, which I thought was really cool. And the fact that the inner ring rotates, that’s amazing.

David Read:
Wow.

Marcia Middleton:
They made a good choice.

David Read:
Yeah. Give me a little bit, guys, and I will add those to the description below, Scout’s honor. That’s really exceptional.

Tommy Valentine:
Do we know if this is from the Nate Dogg?

David Read:
There’s a the Nate Dogg?

Tommy Valentine:
A great rapper.

David Read:
Really?

David Read:
Is he a Stargate fan?

Yvie Cahill:
I’m not sure.

Tommy Valentine:
I think he actually passed away a few years ago, now that I think about it.

Yvie Cahill:
I’d say this is paying homage to that person, because the tag is @McThanielDaniel.

David Read:
OK. Good point.

Yvie Cahill:
So, I assume this person’s name is Daniel.

David Read:
Look, hip hop and Stargate. They go together.

Yvie Cahill:
Like this. Absolutely.

David Read:
Exactly. OK. And Yvie, what do we have from Emily?

Yvie Cahill:
This is the very last one. This did inspire the photo that you used for this stream.

David Read:
Ah, there we go. So, Yvie, do you wanna tell the story behind this?

Yvie Cahill:
So, this is Emily. Now, I believe that Emily is a pastor, which is very cool. And I think this was for her reaffirmation ceremony. So, I think she’s recently given birth as well, and her and her husband decided to renew their vows. So, I couldn’t find much detail about how they made this. I just know that they made it in the weeks leading up to the ceremony. And it was a bit of a rush, I think, so they didn’t get to do the chevrons. But still. I don’t know how big this is and what it’s made out of, but they did an amazing job. And I don’t think Emily has posted anything since, but she did suggest in some of the comments that they did have professional photos done, so she might post them …

David Read:
For sure.

Yvie Cahill:
… at a later stage. But that is a core memory right there. That is amazing.

Marcia Middleton:
And the lighting. It’s beautiful.

David Read:
It’s a great thought.

Yvie Cahill:
I love that. Yep.

David Read:
I don’t know if it’s in the trees in the background. It may be. They certainly look out of focus, so there’s a lot going on here in this shot. She’s one of the two that I reached out to personally, to say, “Hey, can I get more content for this, please?” Because this is exceptional. And everyone likes a kid. A really adorable little man there.

Yvie Cahill:
Of course.

David Read:
So, I’m trying to figure out what he’s wearing.

Yvie Cahill:
His bow tie.

David Read:
Absolutely.

Yvie Cahill:
I think they might even be cosplayers or something on the side.

David Read:
For sure.

Yvie Cahill:
I don’t know what their costume’s in reference to. But it’s so …

David Read:
It’s beautiful.

Yvie Cahill:
… celestial or something.

David Read:
Yes. Exactly right.

Yvie Cahill:
I love it. I love when couples acknowledge the same fandom in a way like this. It’s their shared passion.

David Read:
For sure. Guys, I’m gonna open up the chat. If you guys have any– I don’t know if it’ll let other people post links. But if there’s anything that you want me to share over the next few minutes, email it to me at [email protected], and I will put it in. Someone was asking about a DHD. I think it may have been Lockwatcher. I’m not entirely sure. Lockwatcher says, “Pop-Tart was included to provide a standard scale for the Stargate game.” There we go.

Yvie Cahill:
I love that, Lockwatcher.

David Read:
Standard Pop-Tarts. So, hey. You know what?

Marcia Middleton:
Love it.

David Read:
He’s thinking with food. I would’ve chosen a–

Marcia Middleton:
What flavor?

David Read:
It looked like strawberry or–

Yvie Cahill:
It did.

David Read:
I’m not sure.

Yvie Cahill:
Would’ve been quite Jack or Neill-esque to use a slice of cake. But then, a slice of cake isn’t standard.

David Read:
That’s the thing. It can be anything. If you guys have any specifics… We’re waiting for a couple of guests to join us. I gave them the top of the hour, so we’re gonna kill a few minutes here with you guys, if that’s all right.

Yvie Cahill:
Didn’t know we had some special guests. That’s cool.

David Read:
There is one more item that I would like to share. If you have something that you’ve made, or something that you think should be included in this year’s 2025 Fan Creations.

Yvie Cahill:
This isn’t new, but I could show my crocheted Jack.

David Read:
Yes, do that. I’ll cut away from you so that we won’t see whatever’s below.

Yvie Cahill:
No, I’m good.

David Read:
You sure?

Yvie Cahill:
Yeah.

David Read:
All right. You said so earlier.

Yvie Cahill:
I actually made this quite a long time ago. I think I made it in about 2018, 2019.

David Read:
Ah, automatically disqualified then.

Yvie Cahill:
I was pretty brand new to the Stargate fandom, a few years in.

David Read:
Fluorescent shade of green.

Yvie Cahill:
And I was brand new to crocheting. I’d taught myself. And I became obsessed with amigurumi, which is a type of crochet where you make plushies basically. So, it’s not just doing your standard granny squares or anything like that. It’s actually crocheting, I guess, in 3D. And I saw a pattern, which was actually for Cinderella, and I tweaked it to make it into Jack. And he’s not perfect, but I was really proud of him. And he even has hair, so I’ll get him out of this little thing here.

David Read:
What have you been keeping him in?

Yvie Cahill:
I bring him everywhere when I travel overseas. It’s almost like a comfort thing. So, he’s got hair that I made by basically doing individual strands of wool and then brushing it out with a wire brush, so it’s texturized. It’s actual hair. It’s not perfect. He’s got weird knobbly knees.

David Read:
Doesn’t need to be perfect.

Yvie Cahill:
But you know what?

David Read:
No.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s fine.

David Read:
Stop being self-critical of Jack there. I love the little smirk, the mouth is on the side, like, “Mm. I’m the best.”

Yvie Cahill:
If I could change things, I would’ve changed his eyes. I think they’re too far apart or something. But I actually did make a Sam and a Daniel, and I posted them to America to be sold at an auction that Jenny Stiven was running, and they got lost in the post and I was devastated.

David Read:
Oh no.

Yvie Cahill:
So, someone at the hotel where I posted them to had signed for it, and it never ended up in Jenny’s hands, so it’s gone missing somewhere. But I did a beautiful Sam. I was so proud of her. She had golden hair and it was perfectly in place. And she’s lost somewhere. Hopefully she’s in a loving home.

David Read:
I hope so… [that] someone has done that. Tommy, does your Companion email still work, or is there a–

Tommy Valentine:
It might do. You sending me something?

David Read:
I’m gonna share with you guys something interesting that– Who sent this to me? Let me see who sent this to me here. Stargate Seed sent this over. You guys get that link?

Yvie Cahill:
Let me see.

David Read:
Everyone’s waiting with bated breath.

Yvie Cahill:
It hasn’t come through yet.

Tommy Valentine:
It’s come through on my phone.

Yvie Cahill:
Loading. Oh, that is so cool. Is that clay?

David Read:
I don’t know. I would suspect it is. This is custom — And I’m not suggesting that people should be smoking — This is a Stargate ashtray.

Tommy Valentine:
This makes me want to start smoking again. I mean it in the best possible way.

David Read:
You were a smoker?

Yvie Cahill:
Don’t give in, Tommy.

Tommy Valentine:
I was a smoker, yeah.

David Read:
Really?

Marcia Middleton:
You can use it for candy cigarettes. Use candy cigarettes.

Tommy Valentine:
When you see ashtrays like this, can you blame me?

David Read:
A candy bowl.

Yvie Cahill:
That, to me, looks like polymer clay and resin …

David Read:
It looks like a good time.

Yvie Cahill:
… in the center.

David Read:
It looks like a good time. Looks like I wanna jump in. It’s like handing kids a pack of cigarettes and saying, “Light up.”

Yvie Cahill:
That is so cool.

David Read:
It’s like Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire. That is so funny. But this is really cool. And the fact that they put little clouds in there. And you’ve got the edges of the inside of it reflecting the light, so that it does look like–

Yvie Cahill:
It’s like textured.

David Read:
It’s like a stone has been dropped in the middle of it. This is really cool.

Yvie Cahill:
Ripples.

David Read:
That’s it.

Yvie Cahill:
Ripples. That’s so cool.

David Read:
Thank you, Martin, for sharing. That’s exceptionally cool. But guys, this has been great. I was nervous as to how this was gonna go down because the fact of the matter is that one of these shows could be really dull, because it’s like, “Oh, we show off some stuff,” and everyone goes, “Oh, ooh, huh, yeah. It’s great. I don’t actually think that this is that impressive, but I’m gonna make everyone think so.”

Yvie Cahill:
Everything has been incredible.

David Read:
Exactly.

Marcia Middleton:
Can I show you my rudimentary–

Yvie Cahill:
Of course.

Marcia Middleton:
OK, it’s a Stargate. It’s actually …

David Read:
I can see it.

Marcia Middleton:
… from [inaudible]. They made ’em back for the movie. It was a key chain. And they made Stargates and they made the Ra ship. So I took one, took the ring off, and I had this old chain that my dad gave me a long time ago. And so I made a Stargate necklace. So you don’t have to be super, super skilled …

David Read:
You don’t.

Marcia Middleton:
… to make something that is …

Yvie Cahill:
That is cool.

Marcia Middleton:
… I think, cool.

David Read:
That’s really cool.

Tommy Valentine:
That’s really cool.

Yvie Cahill:
And it’s like the Stargate’s right there in your heart.

David Read:
That’s it. There was a Stargate–

Marcia Middleton:
I love that.

David Read:
They never had Stargate ornaments …

Yvie Cahill:
No.

David Read:
… for the longest time. They did a few for a little while. There were a couple of them. But there was a Stargate key chain. It looked sterling silver. It wasn’t. But I took the key chain off and I affixed it to an ornament hook, and I hung it on my Christmas tree and I photographed it for GateWorld. For Christmas day, that would be the masthead for a couple, three years before we upgraded the website. So that takes me back.

Marcia Middleton:
Love it.

David Read:
Until we upgraded the website and launched on the day that “200” aired. And then three days later, on Monday, SG-1 was canceled.

Yvie Cahill:
Awkward.

David Read:
Awkward.

Yvie Cahill:
Yes, that’s cool.

David Read:
Very awkward. But that’s it. That’s awesome, guys. We have a couple of …

Yvie Cahill:
Special guests.

David Read:
… guests. You guys are special.

Yvie Cahill:
They’re special.

David Read:
As special as they are. They’re very special. Michael and Ryan are gonna be joining us. Tommy and Marcia, if you guys could minimize your videos for me, please?

Marcia Middleton:
Sure.

David Read:
Thank you. Ryan and Michael, come on in, if you can.

Michael Speigner:
Hello.

David Read:
Hello, guys. How we doing? Marcia, hit your video button for me.

Michael Speigner:
Doing well, thanks.

David Read:
Perfect. Guys, it is a pleasure to have you both on. Michael, it’s a pleasure to meet you.

Michael Speigner:
Nice to meet you too. Thank you.

David Read:
Should I jump right in, guys, with what I got here?

Ryan Nixon:
Go for it.

Yvie Cahill:
Go for it.

David Read:
Let me pull this up here. You can see me. Michael, you sent this to me. Before I show this, have you been doing laser engravings before? And what gave you the idea to do this?

Michael Speigner:
I’ve been doing laser engraving professionally probably for the last two and a half years. What inspired me to make this is I’m a big Stargate fan. I used to be a really big Next Generation fan. But now they’ve messed up Next Generation, so I’m getting back into my Stargate. I had a party to go to for Halloween, and I needed to put together a costume, and Ryan helped me out. Then he and I got to talking about what I do and so forth, and we decided we’re gonna make a set of Stargate mirrors, laser-engraved mirrors. And the really cool thing about this mirror is, if you look at the back, the backing comes off. And if you put LED lights in there, it will light up.

David Read:
Really?

Michael Speigner:
Because what it is, is that the laser burns the reflective material off the back, making it clear. And what you’re really seeing is reflection or shadow.

David Read:
Interesting.

Michael Speigner:
Anything you put back there. In fact, if you take it off right now and put it against your ZPM behind you, it’ll light up.

David Read:
There’s a billion tabs on this thing, and I don’t have a butter knife.

Michael Speigner:
No, with your fingers.

David Read:
OK, so they’re actually more pliable than I’m used to.

Ryan Nixon:
I’m gonna try to work with Rem and see if we can develop a kit, a simple kit that doesn’t cost too much.

Michael Speigner:
You pop it right in there. You’ll see there’s a little square thing in there that you could tape some LED strips to.

David Read:
Stand by, folks.

Yvie Cahill:
That is incredible work, guys. That is awesome.

Michael Speigner:
Thank you. The laser’s pretty fine. So, I can get really fine details in that laser. Now, we envisioned making a series of these gates, the Milky Way gate, the Atlantis gate, and …

Yvie Cahill:
The Universe gate.

Michael Speigner:
… the Universe.

Yvie Cahill:
No?

Michael Speigner:
I’m not a fan of the Universe.

David Read:
Boo.

Yvie Cahill:
Others are.

Michael Speigner:
It’s a little too dark.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s a pretty cool gate.

Michael Speigner:
It’s a little too dark. But it’s very cool. We plan on doing a series of those. And when I sat to go find a picture in order to engrave, to put on there, it was very difficult to find any that were actually accurate out there. There’s not a lot of accurate drawings for me to use.

Ryan Nixon:
He knew a guy.

David Read:
“I knew a guy.”

Yvie Cahill:
Something fell off the back of a truck. “I knew a guy.”

Michael Speigner:
What you’re seeing there is actually redrawn by hand based on some blueprints. I guess there was a group of people that remade this.

David Read:
So this really is?

Michael Speigner:
I was able to use some of their drawings. I got even those little scratch lines, which I don’t know what they all mean.

David Read:
They’re drop lines.

Michael Speigner:
That go through there. But those are included as well.

David Read:
I think that’s what Fandom calls them.

Yvie Cahill:
I love that.

David Read:
Dude, that’s exceptional. Thank you so much.

Yvie Cahill:
That is artistry. That is perfect.

David Read:
This is really cool.

Michael Speigner:
Awesome. Thank you. We can make it custom. Anyone who wants one of those, I can spin it to where you can have whatever symbol you want at the top, and then I can even put your name and so forth in it.

David Read:
Guys, can you email me those details right now, so I can put them in the description below in just a few minutes here?

Michael Speigner:
You’re gonna order them from his … and we’re working on his store right now.

Ryan Nixon:
We’re working on that.

David Read:
So when it’s time, will you give me something so that I can put in the description below?

Michael Speigner:
Yeah, absolutely. We’re actively working on it now and his store will be up and have that available.

David Read:
You’re talking about Stitch’s store?

Michael Speigner:
Yes.

David Read:
That guy right there.

Ryan Nixon:
Needles and Overhauls.

David Read:
That’s it. [inaudible]

Michael Speigner:
And it will be available in two sizes. That’s a 12-inch size, which I recommend ’cause you can get into detail. I do an 8-inch size but I have to simplify the design because when we get down to really fine … again, the laser just burns off the backing. And you can only get so thin before you don’t even see it. So, I have a more simplified design I do for that and I also do aluminum, so I can engrave it on black aluminum. Like the background behind me. It’ll look like that.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s amazing. That is really cool.

David Read:
There is so much cool stuff that’s created by this fandom. I’m getting requests for the Zero Point Module right now that I’ve got because it is a fan–

Yvie Cahill:
Your Zero Point Module?

David Read:
Yeah, the one that’s in front of me here. I’m trying to figure it out. But Michael, we’ve never had you on before. While I’m looking this up, how long have you been a fan of Stargate and what made you fall in love with it?

Michael Speigner:
I’ve always been a sci-fi fan. And my style of sci-fi is more factual sci-fi. Difference between Stargate and Star Wars is, Star Wars is real fantasy, a whole lot of fantasy, where Stargate is a lot of– It’s all passable.

David Read:
Something that leans more realistic is what you’re saying …

Michael Speigner:
Exactly.

David Read:
… instead of being more fantastical.

Michael Speigner:
And being ex-Air Force, stationed at Wright-Patt[erson Air Force Base], I can tell you that there’s a lot of really cool stuff. But I remember going to the movie theater and seeing this back in the 90s when it first came out. And what really drove me to it was — the story and visuals are really cool — but man, that soundtrack. The orchestration.

David Read:
David Arnold’s soundtrack is brilliant.

Michael Speigner:
My goodness. You feel it. That’s an emotional soundtrack. And when they use that in the series– So, when the series came out I was actually busy learning to fly commercially and I missed the series. But I went back and discovered it and started binge-watching it over the last couple of years. Like I’d mentioned to you, my wife had passed away, and to pass the time — just fill the noise, the silence — I’ve just been binge-watching mu favorite shows. And Stargate is … In the last year-and-a-half, I’ve gone through SG-1 three times now. I’m in the middle of Atlantis right now.

David Read:
It’s chicken soup.

Michael Speigner:
I may or may not get to Universe. Hm?

David Read:
It’s chicken soup.

Michael Speigner:
Yeah, it’s great because I keep seeing new things over and over. The details. And on Netflix, you can pause it and you can get the trivia and look into stuff. And it’s just so fascinating. The whole thing and the characters. They could not have cast that any better.

David Read:
No.

Michael Speigner:
They could not. And I’m a producer, director, actor as well and I can tell you, those characters, they could not put anyone else in there.

David Read:
And the fact of the matter is that those three, Amanda, Michael and Chris, found each other, I think after the auditions, and they gravitated toward one another for whatever reason. That story was told for years and year. Thank you for sharing yourself and being brave and come on and share you personal story.

Michael Speigner:
Thank you.

David Read:
And it’s a pleasure to have you.

Michael Speigner:
I appreciate it.

David Read:
Ryan, thanks for coming and hanging out. You doing good?

Ryan Nixon:
Yeah, him and I met over the radio antenna.

David Read:
Seriously? Like CB?

Michael Speigner:
No, I ordered a really, really cheap radio from him.

Ryan Nixon:
He ordered the …

Michael Speigner:
Really cheap.

Ryan Nixon:
… antenna.

David Read:
Oh, you met over ordering one, not on radio.

Michael Speigner:
I thought I was ordering …

David Read:
Clever.

Michael Speigner:
… the whole radio kit, and what I really, for $20, was buying was a backing, and he corrected me on it.

David Read:
As Ryan is apt to do. “Excuse me. No.”

Michael Speigner:
We bonded over this. We’re both veterans from Naval Services. I’m the Coast Guard, he’s Navy. We’ve just been hitting it off and I’m helping him out redo Stitch’s Loft 2.0.

David Read:
There we go. It needs it. It’s good, though. I’m glad it’s finally happening. Ryan, it’s good.

Michael Speigner:
It’s necessary.

David Read:
I’m thrilled for you.

Michael Speigner:
It’s dying on its own.

David Read:
Let’s kick it while it’s down.

Ryan Nixon:
It’s almost down. It’s rough.

Yvie Cahill:
You’re gonna have a whole new audience, so you need a new site for that.

Michael Speigner:
It’s gonna be much smoother experience.

David Read:
The last one that I have for everyone to show off is the ZPM ’cause it’s been asked for. This was created by my friend Nick, and his alias is Supernova3D on Etsy and on eBay. And there aren’t a lot of these in the market that I consider to be pretty darned accurate because I’m one of the few fans who got to hold one and feel the weight of it and the scale and everything else. And he has done such a good job with this thing. I actually gave him notes on the lid, as it were, ’cause this thing literally comes off. And he has implemented them. But the craftsmanship, the design, he has done an amazing job for a fan piece. And on the inside of it, the flicker that you guys get with this camera, I can’t see with my own eyes, it’s just the speed of the camera. I think it actually lends itself better, even though the one on the show oscillated just slightly. It’s great work, and he’s international, and I think he’s a spy or something because I can’t get him to come on. He does something really dark and serious.

Yvie Cahill:
Oh my God.

David Read:
Serious and dark.

Ryan Nixon:
That’s amazing quality.

David Read:
And the fact– This is as close as I’ve ever brought it to camera before. So, it usually sits back there. It’s all I need, guys.

Michael Speigner:
Beautiful.

Yvie Cahill:
Is that like LED lighting?

David Read:
Yes, LEDs. So, all it is, is a string of Christmas lights with a little battery pack on the end of it.

Yvie Cahill:
That’s awesome.

David Read:
And some cotton wadding. And that’s all it takes to bring this thing to life. So, he’s done a brilliant job.

Yvie Cahill:
Was any of that made by hand, like the black lining on the …

David Read:
Yes.

Yvie Cahill:
… outside? ‘Cause that looks like lead lining to me, like it’s been done by hand.

David Read:
He traced it. Exactly.

Ryan Nixon:
The real ones were so delicate. I remember in Seattle holding one of the real ones.

David Read:
I let you hold one. Or Dean did. I didn’t let anyone touch ’em.

Ryan Nixon:
That black stuff was so unstable, it’d snap off.

David Read:
Those were originally almost like little plastic wires. But for some of the others, it was like a hot …

Ryan Nixon:
Beaded.

David Read:
… beaded glue. For the breakaway ones that were made of candy glass, like the one that Rodney shatters in “Home” in Season One on Atlantis. So, they did a whole series of them, and Mark Nicholson actually admitted that they had to recreate a couple because these things would walk. And you have to understand just how secure Stargate’s prop production lockup was, and they still managed to walk.

Michael Speigner:
It looked like stained glass. Is that put together in pieces like stained glass?

David Read:
So, all it is– I’m hesitant to–

Ryan Nixon:
No, it’s a resin casting, I believe. He’s colored it.

David Read:
That’s it. And then it’s just the two pieces, and I literally have a dot on here so that I can line up the dots ’cause otherwise it’s– It’s like a key. You have to put it in at the exact right degree in order to get it to fasten on, because otherwise it ain’t happening. Thank you. Michael, thank you very much. Ryan, thank you. Tommy and Marcia, you guys wanna come back?

Yvie Cahill:
So, Tommy has had to …

David Read:
He had to split?

Yvie Cahill:
… disconnect. Yes. He had family duties.

David Read:
All righty. Marcia?

Marcia Middleton:
Yes.

David Read:
Thank you so much for stopping by.

Marcia Middleton:
Thank you for inviting me.

David Read:
This was cool.

Marcia Middleton:
It’s been fun.

David Read:
I felt so bad because we didn’t get to hang out with you the week that we got to celebrate the big news of our own baby on the way.

Marcia Middleton:
Baby on the way. It is a baby. That is true.

David Read:
It is. It’s a baby TV show.

Marcia Middleton:
It feels so good to have the team that they’ve assembled. It feels like family.

David Read:
Yes. It is family in some cases.

Yvie Cahill:
It’s both familiar and new. It’s exciting.

David Read:
Was it Darren? Darren just sent me something here. Let me see real quick if it’s something that I can relay.

Yvie Cahill:
Something you can use?

David Read:
Joe’s Blog says, “The Stargate writer’s room convenes in Los Angeles in January.”

Yvie Cahill:
That’s only this month.

Marcia Middleton:
Ooh, hot news.

Yvie Cahill:
Holy moly.

David Read:
They’re going down for three months.

Marcia Middleton:
In a couple of weeks.

Yvie Cahill:
Three months?

Marcia Middleton:
Awesome.

Yvie Cahill:
Cool. All right.

David Read:
They’re gonna build that thing out.

Marcia Middleton:
I’m getting chills, goosebumps.

David Read:
I know.

Yvie Cahill:
Next year’s gonna be amazing.

David Read:
The year after.

Yvie Cahill:
What are your thoughts on when it’ll actually be …

David Read:
Me?

Yvie Cahill:
… on TV? Do you think the year after next?

David Read:
I suspect, if I was a betting man …

Yvie Cahill:
2027?

David Read:
… and I lose, so I’m not gonna bet, but I would suspect summer ’27.

Yvie Cahill:
I actually love that, because would that not be the anniversary of SG-1?

Marcia Middleton:
Yes, 1997.

David Read:
SG-1 will be turning 30.

Yvie Cahill:
No, that’s good. I love that.

David Read:
It makes sense. I suspect that that is the master plan. But we’ll see what happens. Thanks, guys.

Marcia Middleton:
Thank you.

Yvie Cahill:
I’m thrilled. This has been so fun.

David Read:
This has been a good time.

Yvie Cahill:
I’ve really enjoyed seeing what people have done inspired by the series.

David Read:
It’s a good annual tradition to …

Yvie Cahill:
Celebrate the fandom.

David Read:
… to finish the year off celebrating the fans and fandom itself, and how people continue to create based on the things that they’ve watched and loved. I’m gonna wrap up the show here, and then I’m gonna go to a bar and pick up my Webmaster. So, you guys can stay on the screen but I’m gonna go ahead and take care of this, all right? I appreciate you.

Marcia Middleton:
Thank you.

David Read:
Thank you to Ryan and Michael and Marcia …

Michael Speigner:
Thank you so much.

David Read:
… and Yvie for joining us for this episode. My name is David Read. You’re watching the Stargate Oral History Project. We’ve got a few more shows before we round the bend and finish out the season. A couple I’m confirming right now, one or two big ones if I’m lucky, but it all depends on timing, because I’m wrapping up on the 9th of December. So, everything’s gonna happen fairly quickly. Tomorrow, Kevin Ohtsji joins us, December the 7th, tomorrow at 2:00 PM Pacific Time for Stargate Trivia. Technically 13, lucky 13. Whoops, sorry guys. Hey, how you doing? We’ve got Stargate Podcasts from Around the Web coming up at some point this week here. I’m gonna try and post Ken Rabehl … Actually, I’m moving him to Season Six. And The Music of Stargate: Joel Goldsmith, that is probably gonna be placed into Season Six as well. But there’s a few more things that we’ve got floating around that we’re gonna bring about and make happen here. My tremendous thanks to my team of moderators, couldn’t do this without you guys, Antony, Jeremy, Kevin, Lockwatcher, Marcia, Raj, Jakub, Enigma, Stephen, my production team, Antony Rawling, Kevin Weaver, Summer Roy, Brice Ors, William Murphy. He’s working with us this month as a producer. Really, thank you guys for all your work. Matt “EagleSG” Wilson for his amazing opening sequences. Tomorrow we are opening with an Al’kesh. Been looking forward to that for a while here. And Frederick Marcoux at Concepts Web who keeps dialthegate.com up and running. I gotta go and pull his ass out of a bar. So, that’s where I’m gonna head off to. Really appreciate y’all tuning in. Hope you enjoyed the show. Thanks to everyone who has shared something of themselves online for us to pilfer and share on this show. My name is David Read for Dial the Gate. I appreciate you tuning in, and I’ll see you guys on the other side. Take care.
