David Read [clip]:
Greetings everyone. Welcome to Dial the Gate, the Stargate Oral History Project. It’s trivia time once again. My light’s not on. We’ve been blessed — this is totally unscripted — to have a number of different folks on over the past few years for Trivia, and I really wanted to cast a wider net. So, earlier this year, I reached out to the community and said, “If you wanna come on for Trivia, we’re gonna have an audition, an offline audition. No pressure. There may be cake.” And we had a great run of people. So, we got them together last week, and here are the results. Have a good time.
David Read:
Welcome, Trivia people. How we doing? Everyone good? Hey.
Alex:
Doing great, David. Thanks for having us.
David Read:
Thrilled to have you guys. Alex, where are you?
Alex:
I’m in North Carolina.
David Read:
You’re not in the Manhattan Museum of Art? Are you sure?
Alex:
No. I know it.
David Read:
[inaudible]
Alex:
He just needs his kitten.
David Read:
He’s just kitten. He’s a Carpathian Kitten Loss. Is it Markèta?
Markèta:
Yes, Markèta.
David Read:
How are you?
Markèta:
I hope you can hear me.
David Read:
I can hear you much better now.
Markèta:
Cool.
David Read:
It was touch and go for just a moment there. Where are you?
Markèta:
Brno, Czech Republic.
David Read:
OK, very good.
Alex:
Cool.
David Read:
We have a couple of Czechs in here. Absolutely.
Markèta:
I know.
David Read:
Martin?
Martin Taichl:
Hello?
David Read:
Hello. How you doing?
Martin Taichl:
Quite well.
David Read:
You’re also in the Czech Republic?
Martin Taichl:
Of course. Though a different city.
David Read:
Of course, man. Anyone who’s not from the Czech Republic, faith has not blessed them, and they probably have a tiny one as well. Poor bastards. All righty. Károly, hello. How are you?
Károly:
Hello. I’m fine.
David Read:
Have I pronounced that right?
Károly:
Károly. I’m saying Károly. Forget the L.
David Read:
I’ll do my best.
Károly:
I’m usually saying for English-speaking people to forget the L, and then that’s fine. Whatever …
David Read:
I will do my best.
Károly:
… comes up.
David Read:
Where are you?
Károly:
Hungary. It’s near Budapest. It’s the only big city.
David Read:
OK. I have a buddy in Budapest.
Károly:
It’s near.
David Read:
OK, very good. Jèrèmie?
Jeremy Heiner:
Hey.
David Read:
The other Jèrèmie. Not my Jeremy. How we doing?
Jeremy Heiner:
Hey. What’s up?
David Read:
Where are you?
Jeremy Heiner:
Satan’s armpit.
David Read:
No, not my Jeremy.
Alex:
Florida.
David Read:
Jeremy, you are my Jeremy. Stop it. The Jèrèmie with the è’s. Where are you, Jèrèmie?
Jèrèmie:
Hi, David. I’m from Quebec, Canada, about one hour east of Montreal.
David Read:
Oui, oui. OK, very good. Enigma, how you doing?
Enigma:
Yes, we have two Canadians here. I’m in Ontario, so not too far away from you.
David Read:
All righty. Perfect. And then, Kevin, how you doing, buddy?
Kevin Weaver:
Good morning. Nice to see everyone.
David Read:
Good morning. Are you awake?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
You look barely awake.
Kevin Weaver:
I wasn’t 10 minutes ago, but I am now.
David Read:
I appreciate you being here, man. Kevin’s gonna be keeping score, so he’s gonna be keeping all of us on the straight and narrow here. And you guys do me a favor and keep track of your own as well, so that we can go back later in case there are any issues. We’ve only had one in 13 episodes of doing this. And Jeremy Heiner in lovely Phoenix, Arizona. It’s not that hot there yet, Jeremy. It’s only gonna be 90 degrees next week.
Jeremy Heiner:
It’s already 90 degrees in February.
David Read:
I know. The hottest… I lived in Phoenix where he is, and for all you folks who use Celsius, the hottest I’ve ever experienced was 51 Celsius, and that was in Phoenix.
Markèta:
What?
Martin Taichl:
And you survived it?
David Read:
Yeah, without A/C that year, that was fun. That was 2007. OK. We have some Stargate Trivia. My Jeremy, Jeremy Heiner, can you please go over the fundamentals for everybody while I set this thing up?
Jeremy Heiner:
Yeah, I’d be happy to. Hey, everyone. So, I’m David’s Jeremy, I guess.
Alex:
That’s gonna get some [inaudible].
Jeremy Heiner:
Anyway, we’re doing 3 rounds of 10 questions for each person. David is asking that everyone remain on screen during the whole shebang.
David Read:
No. That’s actually not true. I’ll deal with that in just a moment.
Jeremy Heiner:
OK.
David Read:
But go ahead.
Jeremy Heiner:
So, at the end of each round, Kevin will announce the current scores.
David Read:
Each round will be 10 questions. That’s how we’ll do it. They will, at some point, get progressively harder, but I won’t say when. Every round will be 60 questions, and we should have about 180 questions by the time we’re at the end of this. I have a magical tool that I am now testing for the new website. It won’t exactly look like this, but it’s something that will be available to dialthegate.com hopefully sooner rather than later. Before we get into the thick of it, when you have a correct answer, you will hear [ding]. If you have an incorrect answer, it will be [buzz]. Very good.
Alex:
That was really loud.
David Read:
You can turn it down on your end. Jeremy, do you have…
Jeremy Heiner:
Questions?
David Read:
… the questions in front of you there?
Jeremy Heiner:
Yeah, I’ve noticed that they do shuffle though.
David Read:
When you refresh it– Enigma, it is shuffling when I… Wait. Hang on. No, it’s not.
Enigma:
It should be pulling from …
David Read:
It’s not. You should be pulling from–
Enigma:
… the sheet that you have.
David Read:
Yes. Jeremy, you should have one from Atlantis as the top one there.
Jeremy Heiner:
Yes.
David Read:
Refresh it again for me, please.
Jeremy Heiner:
Yeah. OK, it’s Atlantis.
David Read:
OK. Perfect. Awesome doodles. OK, please bear with me as we are doing this in a little bit of a different fashion. We’ll go forward and see what kind of trouble we can get ourselves into, all right? Let’s go ahead, and I want everyone to mute their video except for Alex. I’m going to take you alphabetically. So, Alex is the first one up. Everyone else please mute your videos. All righty.
Alex:
Performance anxiety.
David Read:
That’s it, exactly. How you doing, man?
Alex:
I’m good. How are you?
David Read:
I’m awesome. Can you please turn off the dynamic follow?
Alex:
Yeah, OK.
David Read:
I want to see your face but I’m not …”Oh yeah, more baby.”
Alex:
It’s what I do, buddy, it’s what I do.
David Read:
That’s it.
Jeremy Heiner:
Is that an Austin Powers reference?
David Read:
Actually, no. There was a photographer taking images of Miss Piggy in the Muppets family Christmas film and he’s like, “Oh yeah, stick that leg out. Do the pouty face. Oh yes, oh yes. Mm. Kermy.”
Jeremy Heiner:
This needs to make it into the final episode.
Alex:
Got it. Thank you.
David Read:
Awesome. No, I assure you. You are to be thanked. [ding] Yes, exactly. How long have you been a Stargate fan?
Alex:
Dude, since day one. I was one of the Showtime folk. The premiere.
David Read:
“Children of the Gods,” OK.
Alex:
I used to have a newspaper clipping from my local paper that was like, “Oh yeah, this show is coming out.” I’ve been there since the beginning.
David Read:
Really? OK. You’re aware that the beginning was the feature? You were there for the film as well?
Alex:
Yes.
David Read:
All right.
Alex:
Big, big, big fan from way back when and been following your site for forever.
David Read:
I appreciate that. What’s your favorite Stargate episode?
Alex:
“A Hundred Days.”
David Read:
Very nice choice. Very nice.
Alex:
I’ve always liked that one. I like the music in that one a lot too. I think the music is really cool.
David Read:
It’s a very sweet … Yes. I liked Joel’s gentle theme for that, a simpler existence. Are you ready for some trivia hijinks?
Alex:
I am. Let’s do it.
David Read:
OK, very good. Jeremy, you rocking and rolling?
Jeremy Heiner:
Yep.
David Read:
I didn’t hear a ding. OK.
Jeremy Heiner:
[ding] There you go.
David Read:
OK, there we go. Yes. Consistency, sir.
David Read:
Kevin, are you set?
Kevin Weaver:
I’m ready.
David Read:
OK, sweet. All right, here we go. You ready, man?
Alex:
Yep.
David Read:
OK. In “Rising,” Teyla’s use of what piece of technology made it clear the Athosians were more advanced than they appeared?
Alex:
It was the necklace that she had?
David Read:
Yeah. This was a lighter. You know what? I didn’t explain a rule. We’re going to toss that one. You have 10 seconds.
Alex:
OK, good to know.
David Read:
Jeremy, can we have 10 seconds from the moment that I finish speaking? Can you configure it to do that?
Jeremy Heiner:
Yeah.
David Read:
OK. Does that need to be reconfigured or is that something that you can do now?
Jeremy Heiner:
Nope. I literally just hit start when you’re done speaking and it’ll count down.
David Read:
It’ll automatically do 10 seconds?
Jeremy Heiner:
It’s already set at 10 seconds.
David Read:
All right. Kevin, are you there?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
OK, can you do me a favor?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
I need you to keep track of when I’ve hit 10 questions, OK?
Kevin Weaver:
OK.
David Read:
All right. If I start to go over, then just stop me.
Kevin Weaver:
OK.
David Read:
OK, very good, ’cause I may do that. We’ll see. We’ll see how it goes. I may be able to correct myself and stop myself. All right. Here we go. OK. All right. Alex, give me levels.
Alex:
Check, check, check. One, two. One, two.
David Read:
OK, perfect. All right, Jeremy, ready to go to the next question? [ding] OK. Here we go, Alex.
Kevin Weaver:
Are we counting the first question as a question?
David Read:
No, we’re not. OK, there we go. This thing is gonna burn me to the ground. OK, here we go, Alex. Ready?
Alex:
Yep.
David Read:
Who was Hippaforalkus?
Alex:
No clue.
David Read:
An ancient general. All right. Very good. You weren’t aware of the term or you couldn’t remember?
Alex:
Nothing. Nothing comes up there.
Jeremy Heiner:
The original name of the Orion ship.
David Read:
That’s it. But an ancient general, yes. Exactly right. Very good, Jeremy. Thank you. OK.
Alex:
I’m gonna default to ancient general for anything I don’t know from now on. It sounds funky.
David Read:
All right.
Alex:
“It’s an ancient general.”
David Read:
All right. Next question. Here we go. Ready?
Alex:
Yep.
David Read:
All right. In The Ark of Truth, who heals Teal’c of his injuries on the plains of Celestis?
Alex:
That was the ascended chica from Atlantis. I know her name, gosh.
David Read:
Who’s got it?
Jeremy Heiner:
I do. But I’m not really playing.
Martin Taichl:
Me too.
David Read:
OK, who’s the answer?
Jeremy Heiner:
Morgan le Fay.
David Read:
Morgan le Fay. Yes. That’s right. I don’t know why, but it says Marrick and Orlin, and that is not the correct answer. So, I will have to look into this and fix it.
Jeremy Heiner:
It was Merlin … Morgan was masquerading as Merlin.
David Read:
But it’s definitely not Marrick/Orlin, which was my answer here, so I don’t know why it’s doing that. All right. Very good. OK. Ready?
Alex:
Yeah.
David Read:
How far is the iris from the Stargate?
Alex:
Microns or something. Less than two microns. I can’t remember the tech. Sorry. An ancient general.
David Read:
Three microns from the event horizon.
Alex:
I’m sorry?
David Read:
Three microns from the event horizon.
Alex:
I said microns. That should count.
David Read:
I will give everyone a grace period. And you did say microns, so I will give you that one. And you also …
Alex:
Hey.
David Read:
… said two, and that’s pretty darn close, so I will give you that one.
Alex:
That’s pretty close.
Alex:
I don’t know where I got that one though.
David Read:
All right. Put that one up on the board please, Kevin.
Jeremy Heiner:
I wasn’t sure about that one ’cause that was really close.
David Read:
All right. Kevin, did you put that on the board?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
I’m not seeing it on the board.
Kevin Weaver:
I have it in the C column.
David Read:
No, it’s not updating in the C column, man. It’s zero. There it goes. OK. What happened?
Kevin Weaver:
I clicked out of the C column, and I think that might have updated it.
David Read:
OK. Press enter.
Kevin Weaver:
Ah, OK.
David Read:
All right? OK. ‘Cause it’s not gonna dynamically update. You have to press enter for it to accept the entry, OK? All right. Sweet. Ready, man?
Alex:
Yeah.
David Read:
OK. Who was Yaozu named after in SGU’s “Common Descent?”
Alex:
Ancient general.
David Read:
Camille Wray’s father. Alrighty. Next question. All right. What year did the first Stargate movie come out in theaters?
Alex:
1994.
David Read:
That’s correct. Very good. Why do Jack O’Neill and Kanan return to Baal’s compound in “Abyss?”
Alex:
Because we don’t leave our people behind.
David Read:
Yes. To rescue a slave Kanan had fallen in love with. O’Neill’s sense of duty also influenced the decision. Very good. Kevin, how many more do I have? Kevin?
Alex:
That was six by my count.
Kevin Weaver:
You have four questions left.
David Read:
Thank you. OK. Alrighty. What were the names of McKay and Sheppard’s countries in the game and why were they named that? Man, that’s a long answer. I’ll take the names of the countries.
Alex:
Uh-uh. No.
David Read:
OK. Geldar and Hallona.
Alex:
Never woulda got those.
David Read:
OK. Next question. What is the name of Sam Carter’s brother?
Alex:
Michael? No.
David Read:
It’s Mark.
Alex:
Mark. Losing them.
David Read:
Alrighty. Kevin, you have him down for three. Has he gotten three?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
OK. Who is the actor to provide the voice of Thor?
Alex:
Michael Shanks.
David Read:
Very good. That’s right. How many characters has Mike Dopud played on Stargate excluding uncredited characters?
Alex:
Excluding uncredited? Three.
David Read:
Four.
Alex:
Four!
David Read:
Nine total. Kevin, is that ten?
Kevin Weaver:
That’s ten questions.
David Read:
Alrighty. Perfect. So, we are currently at four, good sir. Very good. That’s the end of round one for you, Alex. Thank you. Enigma, come on in. OK, perfect. All right. You all set? Ready to rock and roll?
Enigma:
Yep. I’m definitely not shaking right now.
Jeremy Heiner:
You got this.
Enigma:
You got this. No shakes. There’s no crying in baseball.
Enigma:
I’m not crying.
David Read:
I know. All right. Jeremy, you ready?
Jeremy Heiner:
[Ding.]
David Read:
Kevin, you ready?
Kevin Weaver:
Ding.
David Read:
God’s sakes. In “Ripple Effect,” why does evil SG1 hijack the Odyssey, Enigma?
Enigma:
They wanted to get the ZPM from Atlantis?
David Read:
That’s correct. Very good. They needed the ZPM to power their …
Enigma:
I was like, “Am I thinking of the right one?”
David Read:
… Antarctic weapon and save their reality. Next question. What is the name of the planet first visited by Earth’s Stargate program?
Enigma:
I want to say Abydos, but are we counting the one–
David Read:
That’s correct. Absolutely.
Enigma:
‘Cause I wasn’t sure if we were counting the one from–
David Read:
You could argue that that’s Chulak when they come back.
Jeremy Heiner:
She’s thinking about “The Torment of Tantalus.”
David Read:
I would have taken either answer. The other one was before the SGC.
Enigma:
I was thinking from “Torment of Tantalus.”
David Read:
That was before the SGC. SGC wasn’t incorporated yet. You can incorporate it. But it’s a quiet government agency. OK, all set? OK. How many people were shown recording messages in “Letters from Pegasus?” I’m looking for the number.
Enigma:
I’m gonna guess nine?
David Read:
Nine is the correct answer, Enigma. Very well done. I’m impressed. Next question. What is President Hayes’s response to Dr. Weir when she says, “What if I refuse your offer?”
Enigma:
It’s right there. I can’t remember.
David Read:
So, this says, “Not a chance,” and I think that that’s incorrect. I don’t think that that’s right.
Kevin Weaver:
That’s incorrect by my memory.
David Read:
“It’s not gonna happen.” That’s what he says. Doesn’t he say, “Not gonna happen, never gonna happen”?
Enigma:
That sounds more familiar.
Kevin Weaver:
I think it’s “Never gonna happen.”
David Read:
I don’t like this. I don’t know what this thing is.
Alex:
“Never gonna happen” is what he says to Anubis.
David Read:
But he says it more than once, I’m pretty sure. “Lost City.”
Enigma:
I wouldn’t have got it anyway.
Alex:
Come on, we’re a bunch of nerds. We’re gonna fact-check this.
Enigma:
I think you’re right though. What you said sounds more–
David Read:
So, Hayes says, “Never going to happen. Bonnie, come in here. Thank you.” So, I don’t know what this thing has done, but it’s spitting out wrong answers, and that really makes me nervous because this is an archive of Trivia. So, he says [inaudible].
Enigma:
Is it right in the spreadsheet? ‘Cause I’m questioning the other thing now.
David Read:
Yeah, it is in the spreadsheet.
Enigma:
It’s got the right answers in the spreadsheet, or they’re matching up.
David Read:
It was supposed to, and all of a sudden it’s changing them up, and I don’t understand why that is. Yes. The answers are organized across the correct question. Such as they are. OK, very good.
Enigma:
As long as the thing I did isn’t breaking it.
David Read:
No, it’s not. It’s not.
Enigma:
So, it’s not my fault.
David Read:
No, it’s not, Enigma. Kevin, is it six more to go?
Kevin Weaver:
We have six more questions.
David Read:
OK, very good. Ready?
Enigma:
OK.
David Read:
Next question. How many seasons are there of SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe combined?
Enigma:
Total? 17.
David Read:
That’s correct. Very good. Ten, five, and two. All right. In “Children of the Gods,” what is the name of the female soldier taken by Teal’c in the opening sequence?
Enigma:
I was watching the old episodes and I remember you guys arguing about it.
David Read:
We’re pulling from this. That’s exactly right.
Enigma:
I don’t remember.
David Read:
Wetterings or Ketterings, depending on who you reference.
Enigma:
OK. I remembered the W, and then I was like, “I don’t remember the rest of it.”
David Read:
There we go. Next question.
Enigma:
But I remember you arguing about it.
David Read:
Because Ketterings was not correct. In “Rising,” what does Sheppard think of when he realizes the Puddle Jumper can read his mind?
Enigma:
A turkey sandwich.
David Read:
That’s correct. Very good. When Daniel becomes mortal again in “Threads,” what does Jack provide him to cover himself?
Enigma:
The SGC flag?
David Read:
There we go. That’s right. What grade did Cadet Jennifer Hayley get on her assignment in “Prodigy?”
Enigma:
D.
David Read:
That’s right. Kevin, are we at ten?
Kevin Weaver:
We have one more.
David Read:
OK. In “Seth,” Enigma, what name did Seth go by when he started a cult in Greece?
Enigma:
I remember this question. I don’t remember the answer. What was it?
David Read:
Typhon. All right. Very good, Enigma. You are at seven. Thank you for playing. We’ll see you in a few minutes. Not my Jèrèmie, come on in.
Jèrèmie:
Hey, David.
David Read:
How are we doing?
Jèrèmie:
Not too bad.
David Read:
All right. Are you going to paste the other two just out of existence? Just gonna nail them?
Jèrèmie:
We’ll see.
David Read:
We’ll see. All righty. OK, you all set?
Jèrèmie:
Yeah, I am.
David Read:
OK. Next question is yours. How many Wizard of Oz references are there in total in SG-1? You know what? I’m passing on this one. I do not trust the answer that I’ve seen. Next question. What are Vala’s TV series pitches in 200? Can you give me two of them?
Jèrèmie:
There was Gilligan’s Island and Farscape, I think.
David Read:
That’s correct. And this little thing called Wizard of Oz, which I may have just mentioned 30 seconds ago. Very good. OK. Next. In “Prisoners,” when comparing Hadante to a penal colony, Daniel incorrectly states the original name of Sydney Harbour was what?
Jèrèmie:
Botany Bay?
David Read:
That’s correct. Very good. How many kiron pathways exist in each Replicator block?
Jèrèmie:
God. That wasn’t in the show. I’m gonna say one billion.
David Read:
At least two million.
Jèrèmie:
Two million? OK.
David Read:
I’m sorry, Jeremy, I’m preempting your buzzers and bings. I apologize. I promise to hashtag [inaudible].
Jèrèmie:
I did answer anyway so it was over.
David Read:
There we go. That’s it. OK. What Earth phrase does Ford say to Jinto, omitting the curse word in “Hide and Seek?”
Jèrèmie:
What did he say?
David Read:
What Earth phrase does Ford say to Jinto in “Hide and Seek,” omitting the curse word?
Jèrèmie:
I don’t know that one.
David Read:
“Stuff happens.” Although it’s not quite like that. Exactly. All right. In “Ex Deus Machina,” who inquires into the status of Carter’s relationship with Pete Shanahan?
Jèrèmie:
Agent Barrett.
David Read:
That is correct, Agent Malcolm Barrett. What does Destiny do when her systems are low on power, Jèrèmie?
Jèrèmie:
She flies into a star to recharge.
David Read:
She dips into a star to recharge. Very good. What characters appeared in all three Stargate shows? Can you give me three of them?
Jèrèmie:
O’Neill, Dr. McKay, and I’m gonna say Master Chief Sergeant Walter Harriman.
David Read:
All right. Very good. Very good. Skin of your teeth, guy. OK. That’s it. For the record, Carter, Daniel …
Jèrèmie:
Would Woolsey have counted?
David Read:
… Woolsey would have counted. And he’s not on this list. I don’t understand what is wrong with this thing.
Jeremy Heiner:
Was Woolsey in the Universe?
David Read:
Yes, he was. He was in “Seizure.” Carter, Daniel, O’Neill, McKay, Walter, Dr. Lee, Bill Lee, and Kevin Marks. His name is in there twice. That is not correct. Something has chewed through this thing, and I smell a rat named… I think it’s named AI. So, I’m gonna have to go back through and manually check all these one by one. It’s a good thing I’m with eight of my closest Stargate friends right now to help me out with that so that we can level the scales. Alrighty, guys. You ready to go?
Jèrèmie:
Yeah.
David Read:
If anyone disagrees with any of these answers, speak up. Kevin, how many more questions do I have? Is it three or four?
Kevin Weaver:
Yeah, three more.
David Read:
Thank you, sir. All right. How much did O’Neill owe Hammond at the end of “1969?” I hate this question.
Károly:
With interest.
David Read:
With interest.
Jèrèmie:
I know it was in the ballpark of $500 or something, but I don’t know the exact number.
Jeremy Heiner:
You gonna take it, David, or no?
David Read:
Nah. You get one, Jèrèmie. Would you like me to credit you for this one?
Jèrèmie:
What do you mean?
David Read:
It’s not close enough. I would need at least the dollar figure before this ends.
Jèrèmie:
I don’t have it. I know it, but–
David Read:
$539.50. That’s not correct? I see what you–
Jeremy Heiner:
You’re correct.
David Read:
I am–
Jèrèmie:
I’m not.
David Read:
I’m gonna check, just in case. $539.50.
Jèrèmie:
That makes sense.
Jeremy Heiner:
Whoo-hoo.
David Read:
Ha ha. OK. Very good. You all set?
Jèrèmie:
Yeah.
David Read:
Two more, Kevin?
Kevin Weaver:
Two more.
David Read:
OK. In “Fail Safe,” when the asteroid was discovered, on which constellation was it visible?
Jèrèmie:
Cassiopeia.
David Read:
That is correct. Qetesh served as an underling for which Goa’uld System Lord before being extracted from Vala?
Jèrèmie:
That’s a good one.
David Read:
It is.
Jèrèmie:
Baal? Is that it?
David Read:
Camulus.
Jèrèmie:
Camulus. OK.
David Read:
I would have guessed Baal as well. All right. Thank you for playing, Jèrèmie.
Jèrèmie:
Thanks.
David Read:
Awesome. Thank you. Károly? Entrada, por favor.
Károly:
Yes, I’m here.
David Read:
Did I say it right?
Károly:
Yes. It was perfect.
David Read:
Oh, perfect.
Károly:
Not perfect, but good enough.
David Read:
Alrighty. I appreciate you joining me, and we’ve got you, Markèta, and Martin, and then we will look back and bask on the numbers. You all set?
Károly:
Yes.
David Read:
Alrighty. Let’s rock and roll. What film does Nicholas Rush reference in SGU Season One’s “Time?”
Károly:
No. Don’t know.
David Read:
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Károly:
I know that with my recent rewatch.
David Read:
OK. Very good.
Károly:
OK. We’ll see.
David Read:
All right. How long did it take the Daedalus to travel from Earth to Atlantis without a zero-point module?
Károly:
It was, I think, three weeks?
David Read:
18 days.
Károly:
18 days.
Jeremy Heiner:
We counted.
Károly:
That’s a bit–
David Read:
It’s not three weeks. All righty. In “Touchstone,” SG-1 takes a helicopter to an NID landing strip at which Air Force base?
Károly:
No. It’s not there.
David Read:
It’s not a correct answer. Hang on just a second here.
Jeremy Heiner:
Hill’s not correct?
David Read:
Hill Air Force Base? That’s it?
Jeremy Heiner:
That’s in Utah?
David Read:
Hill Air Force Base. Spank me rosy. All righty. Very good. Hill Air Force Base. Yes. All right, maybe I should …
Jeremy Heiner:
Not Lake City.
David Read:
… trust my instruments. That’s it. OK.
Károly:
I remember that one was there, but not sure which …
David Read:
Hill Air Force Base.
Károly:
… episode.
David Read:
Let’s rock and roll. The Kull Warriors have genetically engineered bodies animated by an Ancient technology called the Telchak device, but what keeps these creatures alive day-to-day?
Károly:
The Goa’uld symbiote inside.
David Read:
That is correct. Very good. According to the film, what mountain plays the setting for the underground facility, Károly?
Károly:
What mountain? It was not the Cheyenne Mountain.
David Read:
It was not. Creek Mountain.
Károly:
That’s it.
David Read:
That one. All right.
Károly:
It’s easier.
David Read:
On what world did Anubis create — engineer — the super soldier?
Károly:
What was the name? I don’t know.
David Read:
Tartarus is the answer.
Károly:
Tartarus.
David Read:
I would rewrite this to be– We don’t know where he created them. He had labs all over the goddamn place.
Károly:
Yeah, but that was the main lab.
David Read:
I would call it– He maintained them there. OK. All right, next question. Who fell through the black hole in “A Matter of Time?” Good question. I’ve been trying to get them on.
Károly:
They went through the rope with O’Neill and–
David Read:
Rope. But who are they, though?
Károly:
They are old, I don’t know, war buddies. Something like that.
David Read:
It’s Frank Cromwell.
Károly:
I don’t know what’s the name.
David Read:
Yep. You do now. All righty. In “Adrift,” what does McKay refer to the power conduits as when dumbing it down for Sheppard?
Károly:
We watched it last week. I don’t know.
David Read:
Pipes.
Károly:
Pipes.
Jeremy Heiner:
Leaky pipes.
David Read:
Did he say leaky pipes?
Károly:
Leaky.
Jeremy Heiner:
Didn’t he say it was leaky pipes, specifically?
David Read:
Leaky pipes? Let me see here.
Károly:
There were a lot of leaky pipes, yes.
Jeremy Heiner:
There was leaky pipes.
Károly:
Where the energy went away.
David Read:
OK.
Károly:
They couldn’t put in enough power …
David Read:
All right. That’s it. No.
Károly:
… to the room.
David Read:
“Losing power. Losing power.”
David Read:
All righty. How many more, Kevin?
Kevin Weaver:
Two more.
David Read:
Thank you. In early seasons of SG-1, Daniel had two different screensavers on the computer in his lab. Name either of them.
Károly:
See, there were a lot of screensavers rotating —
David Read:
He had two of them.
Károly:
… SGC levels. Maybe that’s–
David Read:
Dancing Egyptians or the spinning SGC logo?
Károly:
Spinning. That’s it.
David Read:
There we go. And one more. What does the IOA give Ronon Dex, and why does the IOA give Ronon Dex an automated passing grade in “Midway?”
Károly:
Oof, I am not there yet in the rewatch. Just missed. Next week, I would know that, but now, no.
David Read:
You’ve never seen it?
Károly:
I have seen it last night, but now I’m rewatching and really– Next week, I will reach that.
David Read:
He and Teal’c did this little thing called saving the day.
Károly:
They did. I also …
David Read:
They did, indeed. All righty.
Károly:
That was the big …
David Read:
Thank you, Károly.
Károly:
… beating point. Thank you.
David Read:
I appreciate you. Markèta, entre. Hello.
Markèta:
Hi.
David Read:
I know that shirt.
Markèta:
Yes.
David Read:
Very good. Can you tilt your camera up a little bit?
Markèta:
Like this?
David Read:
The other way.
Markèta:
The other way.
David Read:
The other way. There we go. Thank you. How we doing?
Markèta:
Fine.
David Read:
Awesome. OK. Let’s rock and roll. In “Window of Opportunity,” when Jack and Teal’c are golfing in the gate room, what is the brand of the golf bag?
Markèta:
Callaway?
David Read:
Correct. Very good. How many Wraith did Sheppard name, and what are the names? I hate these questions. Give me three names of Sheppard’s Wraith.
Markèta:
Bob, Steve, and Todd?
David Read:
I’ll take it. Steve, Bob, Michael, Todd, and Kenny. Very good. Your sound is going in and out.
Markèta:
I am? Maybe if I move closer to my laptop, it will be better.
David Read:
No, it’s fine. Go ahead and come back for me.
Markèta:
Like this?
David Read:
There we go. Perfect. The sound was the same either way. We’ll work with it. I can hear you. I’ll pay more attention, which wouldn’t be a bad thing in general.
Markèta:
I can turn up the volume or sensitivity or something like that.
David Read:
We’re good. You can adjust your mic sensitivity?
Markèta:
Probably.
David Read:
Jeremy, is that a thing?
Jeremy Heiner:
Yeah, I think what’s happening is it’s not picking it up until she says a few words and then it-
David Read:
Do you have a microphone in your earbuds or are they just headphones?
Markèta:
They are just headphones.
David Read:
That is really weird. Do you hear… You guys hear that?
Jeremy Heiner:
It’s like three words and then it starts picking it up, so it’s probably a sensitivity thing.
Enigma:
Is it noise suppression in Zoom that’s doing it?
Jeremy Heiner:
Possibly.
David Read:
All of a sudden everyone just turned up for me. That is really weird. And I haven’t pressed anything on my side.
Markèta:
Is it better now?
David Read:
No, now everyone is loud. Is it louder for everyone all of a sudden?
Jeremy Heiner:
No.
Martin Taichl:
No. Normal for me.
Enigma:
Nothing changed, no.
David Read:
Can you turn it down for me and see what happens? ‘Cause that’s very curious. It’s like you’re in control of my headphones. Say something now.
Jeremy Heiner:
You are in control of your TV.
David Read:
That’s it. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. That’s bizarre.
Alex:
It’s the AI. OK. It heard you bad mouthing the questions.
David Read:
Did you guys hear a voice say, “Maximum volume?”
Jeremy Heiner:
No.
Martin Taichl:
Nope.
Enigma:
That sounds like your headphones.
David Read:
When she pressed the volume up on her end, my headphones said “Maximum volume,” and then all of a sudden you guys were louder.
Martin Taichl:
You were hearing what else?
Enigma:
Do your earbuds have some sort of AI in them? It sounds like your earbuds.
David Read:
They must have been picking up the pulses that were being transmitted from that end, because all of a sudden it just said maximum volume on mine when she was dialing it up. That was very strange. OK. Back to life.
Enigma:
Because my headphones have a thing where if I turn the volume up on the headphones, depending on how they’re connected, it’ll make a sound when I hit the maximum. Doesn’t say words, but it has a sound, so it’s probably your headphones.
David Read:
But I didn’t control the volume at that moment on my side. I wasn’t anywhere near my volume buttons.
Enigma:
That’s why I was wondering if there’s some sort of AI where it’s listening to you say, “Turn up the volume,” and it just turned them up for you. I don’t know if that’s a thing, but–
David Read:
Turn up the volume.
Martin Taichl:
Turn up the what?
David Read:
No, no, no. Everybody, turn up the volume. Maximum volume.
Martin Taichl:
Maybe you have a voice command feature …
David Read:
Nothing happened. It was a fluke.
Martin Taichl:
… you don’t know about.
Enigma:
I was guessing ’cause that’s what it seemed like.
David Read:
I had Chelah Horsdal on. And the most important point that she made that was contextually interesting to her entire Stargate journey, she does this, and then birthday balloons fly up behind her. Gestures were turned on in Zoom. It was like, you’ve gotta be kidding me. She said a lot of interesting things over the course of the hour, but it was the single most interesting thing that she said, and she did this, and gestures were enabled in Zoom, and birthday balloons were flying everywhere. I can’t use this image. People are gonna be distracted by the party favors, so whatever. It’ll look great in the book. OK. How many more do I have, Kevin? We are at two questions.
David Read:
Oh my goodness. OK. Alrighty. You ready?
Markèta:
Yes, I am.
David Read:
In “Pretense,” what are the two different colors, and who do they represent on the detachment device?
Markèta:
Red is Klorel and blue is Skaara.
David Read:
That is correct. Very good. Who supplies the nukes Atlantis uses against the Wraith in “The Siege?”
Markèta:
That would be Genii.
David Read:
That is correct. How much training did Harmony have before her quest?
Markèta:
Six months.
David Read:
Three full sessions. All right. How is Destiny’s team initially accessing the underground bunker in “Epilogue?”
Markèta:
No idea.
David Read:
Pew, pew. They shoot it down. They shoot a hole into it by firing Destiny’s main weapon. It’s a cool sequence. In “The Return, Part Two,” Jack cannot empty the water in the airlock due to what type of controller?
Markèta:
CO2? No. I don’t know.
David Read:
A dead man’s switch. All right.
Jeremy Heiner:
He has to hold it down.
David Read:
That’s it. What is Nish’ta, Markèta?
Markèta:
A Nish’ta is a drug that Seth used to brainwash its followers.
David Read:
I’ll take it. A mind control agent. Who composed the score for the Stargate feature film?
Markèta:
David Arnold?
David Read:
That is correct. Very good. Do I have one more, Kevin?
Kevin Weaver:
One more.
David Read:
All right. What is the original title for SGU’s “Darkness?” It went by another name.
Markèta:
Don’t know.
David Read:
“Fire.” All righty. Thank you for playing, Marketta. We’ll see you in a minute. Martin. Martin Taichl.
Martin Taichl:
Hello.
David Read:
How are you, sir? Welcome back.
Martin Taichl:
Now I’m a little bit– I don’t really think I have that many chances.
David Read:
Do you wanna bow out?
Martin Taichl:
No. I have to try to be even with Markèta, but I’m not sure.
David Read:
A snowball’s chance in hell.
Martin Taichl:
We’ll see. It will depend on what type of question I will receive.
Jeremy Heiner:
Snowball’s chance in Phoenix.
David Read:
This is true. There we go. Can you do me a favor and turn your laptop slightly, like, two hairs and some air? Awesome. Thank you. I feel like Seth MacFarlane in The Orville. OK. Very good. You guys ready to rock and roll?
Martin Taichl:
Yeah.
David Read:
OK. In the opening Egyptian scene and desert battles, what besides extras were used as stand-ins to fill in the crowd in the feature film?
Martin Taichl:
There were some maquettes from some something, rag dolls or something like that. Not sure if I expressed it properly.
David Read:
Scarecrows and mannequins, I’ll take it. Absolutely. What is the name of the Atlantis episode where Sheppard remarks, “You’d need a really nice DeLorean?”
Martin Taichl:
I don’t know.
David Read:
“Before I Sleep.”
Martin Taichl:
That makes sense.
David Read:
What is Simon Wallace’s excuse for not traveling to Atlantis with Weir in Season Two?
Martin Taichl:
His practice. He’s a doctor.
David Read:
He met someone else.
Martin Taichl:
They grew apart by that year, and he found–
David Read:
You won. You got it. He met someone else and had research and patients. Very good. In “Space Race,” Jack O’Neill uses a code name for Teal’c in the facility. What is the code name?
Martin Taichl:
Murray?
David Read:
That is correct. How did Ronon know about the Shrine of Talos?
Martin Taichl:
His grandfather had the second childhood, and they took him there and said their farewell.
David Read:
Very good. What is the reason behind why the Ori demand worship from their followers?
Martin Taichl:
Through some unknown means, they received energy from that worship. It’s not exactly easy.
David Read:
There is an energy transfer. What is the name of the film in the Mexican market, the Spanish title of the Stargate movie?
Martin Taichl:
I’m not sure I understand the question, to be honest.
David Read:
What is the name of the movie in Mexico? What is it called?
Martin Taichl:
No idea.
David Read:
OK. La Puerta del Tiempo / El Portal del Tiempo. The Gate of Time or The Door of Time.
Martin Taichl:
Doesn’t make sense.
David Read:
It makes sense to them. All right. What is the other sci-fi role that Jolene Blalock is known for? She played– Blalock. She played Ishta.
Martin Taichl:
She plays T’Pol in Enterprise.
David Read:
That’s it. In Atlantis’ “Trinity,” what is the project’s name and the planet it’s on? I’ll take either one.
Martin Taichl:
Doranda is the planet.
David Read:
And Project Arcturus.
Martin Taichl:
Arcturus.
David Read:
And Doranda.
Martin Taichl:
Arcturus.
David Read:
Very, very good. All right. Why does John Sheppard scale the side of Atlantis in “Quarantine?”
Martin Taichl:
He had to get to the gate room because all the doors were closed.
David Read:
Why? What was he trying to do?
Martin Taichl:
To lift the quarantine, to turn it off.
David Read:
I’ll take it. To terminate the self-destruct.
David Read:
Very good.
Martin Taichl:
But the self-destruct was part of the quarantine.
David Read:
But it’s also the most critical. “OK, everyone’s good. You can–” Is that 10, Kev?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
All right, Kev.
Martin Taichl:
How many points did I have?
David Read:
We’re about to tell you right now. So, Kevin, from the top.
Kevin Weaver:
We have Alex with four, Enigma with eight, Jèrèmie with six, Károly with one, Markèta with six, and Martin with eight.
David Read:
So Enigma and Martin are in the lead with eight. Martin, are you still not so sure?
Martin Taichl:
Nah, now I’m more in peace.
David Read:
Good. All righty. Alex, you are up.
Alex:
Gosh, I hope I do better.
David Read:
Let’s see.
Alex:
Sorry.
David Read:
Martin, good to see you, buddy. OK, there we go. Awesome. Alex, you ready to go?
Alex:
Do it. Do it. Data boxing over here.
David Read:
All right. There you go. Pull from that river of slime.
Alex:
Woosah. Woosah.
David Read:
Here we go. No, I’m not gonna… skip this one, Jeremy, OK? Who was Aris Boch hunting in “Deadman Switch,” and what other name did he know him by?
Alex:
He was hunting the Tok’ra, but I do not remember his name.
David Read:
Korra, also known as Keltar.
Alex:
I was gonna go with Larry. It was off.
David Read:
That would’ve been off. All righty, very good.
David Read:
What was the more common name for Also sprach Zarathustra revealed by Volker in “Hope?”
Alex:
Say all that again.
David Read:
What is the more common name for Also sprach Zarathustra revealed by Volker in the SGU episode “Hope?”
Alex:
I don’t know.
David Read:
[humming Also sprach Zarathustra]
Alex:
I should have known that.
David Read:
What’s the name, Alex? I’m looking for the name.
Alex:
It’s the 2001 [A Space Odyssey] theme.
David Read:
Thank you. For the love of God. There we go …
Alex:
Sorry.
David Read:
… my friend. We made it there. Yes, you’ve been a bad boy.
Alex:
Sorry. I know.
David Read:
What brand chocolate bar did Daniel offer to Kasuf?
Alex:
It was a like a Payday. A 5th Avenue?
David Read:
Yes, sir.
Alex:
It was. I can see it now in my head.
David Read:
There we go. Korace — it’s Koracen — the replicator who goes rogue in the Atlantis episode “Ghost in the Machine,” is played by Robert Moloney. What other role did he play in Stargate SG-1?
Alex:
I shouldn’t have had all that wine last night.
David Read:
Choices, Alex, choices. “I thought you were joking, like you always do.” “It’s like a planet full of accountants.” Really, no bells? No little bells?
Alex:
Yeah, is that–
David Read:
Yeah. “Get Jack and Carter and Teal’c out of the mine.” “I’m getting around to it.” Borren.
Alex:
Borren.
David Read:
All right. Here we go.
Alex:
I got that.
David Read:
Name the episode where the same character is played by two different actors. Name one of those episodes for me, any episode.
Alex:
The same character is played by two different actors?
David Read:
Two different actors. You are out of time.
Alex:
I’m out of time.
David Read:
“Holiday” and “Torment of Tantalus.”
Alex:
Those are– That’s good.
David Read:
I think there’s probably more than that. OK. Alrighty. Richard Dean Anderson’s regular stand-in, Bill Nikolai, also has a recurring role in SG-1. What is the name of this character? “Hey, blank, how’s the wife?”
Alex:
Sergeant Siler.
David Read:
Bill Nikolai? You sure?
Alex:
Wait. Siler, right?
David Read:
Uh-uh. No. His stand-in, not his stunt double. Dan Shea was a stunt performer.
Alex:
That’s right.
David Read:
Bill Nikolai was a stand-in, and he is seen when O’Neill passes him on a bike on sublevel 28, and he says, “Hey, blank, how’s the wife?”
Alex:
No.
David Read:
What’s blank’s name?
Alex:
I don’t know. An ancient general.
David Read:
Hippaforalkus? No.
Alex:
Hippaforalkus.
David Read:
Nor is it a Flagisallus. The Flagisallus wouldn’t fit. It’s Vern. Is it Vern?
Alex:
Vern.
David Read:
What’s Vern’s last name?
Kevin Weaver:
Alberts?
David Read:
Alberts. See, Jeremy, you get a gold star. This is why you’re here. Ready to rock and roll. Which Asgard is voiced by Teryl Rothery?
Alex:
It’s funny you ask that, because I got the Thor one the last round, and I even thought, “And Teryl Rothery voiced one too,” and now I can’t remember it.
David Read:
It’s meant to be.
Alex:
No, it’s fair. That’s a fair buzz.
David Read:
“Oh, humans. Interesting. I am Heimdall.”
Alex:
Heimdall. I knew it was gonna be … it definitely wasn’t the Loki one.
David Read:
She also did the motion capture for him, and Craig Van Den Biggelaar said that with Teryl’s dancing background, he had to tone down her flourishes. She kept wanting to flourish.
Alex:
She flourished.
David Read:
Any dancing Asgard, it would’ve been Heimdall. Alrighty. She tried to. He toned her down. What is the Athosian name for Teyla’s fighting sticks?
Alex:
Banta sticks? Am I… No. Banta something. I don’t know.
David Read:
I will take it.
Alex:
Is it?
David Read:
Yeah. Bantos sticks, Bantos rods.
Alex:
Whoa.
David Read:
That’s it.
Alex:
Yes.
David Read:
You said Bantos. Alrighty.
Alex:
Whoa, dude.
David Read:
Is there one more?
Kevin Weaver:
One more.
David Read:
Kevin, thank you. How did Peter DeLuise make his presence known in “Threshold?” What was his identifier in the episode “Threshold” in Season Five?
Alex:
Peter DeLuise? Not David? Peter. OK.
David Read:
How did he make his presence known? This is two seasons before David was introduced.
Alex:
Was he carrying the giant wrench?
David Read:
That would’ve been Siler, or Major Wood, and Peter DeLuise wrote his initials, PD, in the candles at the foot of Teal’c’s bed.
Alex:
I wrote him a fan letter when I was in college, and he kindly wrote me back. I always thought that was nice.
David Read:
Peter DeLuise?
Alex:
Yeah.
David Read:
Or his publicity department.
Alex:
I was in film school, and I was complimenting him on the 360 camera rig that he had in–
David Read:
In “The Warrior.”
Alex:
Don’t give me that question either.
David Read:
Exactly. No. I’m sure it was him. Peter’s a great guy. Alrighty. Is that it, guys? Kevin, is that it?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
Alex, thank you for playing. Enigma, you are up. Hello.
Enigma:
Hi.
David Read:
How we doing?
Enigma:
Good.
David Read:
Are you sure you didn’t look at these questions again and again?
Enigma:
I did not.
David Read:
I can see right through you, Enigma. You’re blushing. OK. In “Critical Mass,” what does Teyla ensure gets performed upon Charin’s death?
Enigma:
Was it called the ring ceremony?
David Read:
That is not just yes, but a heck yes.
Enigma:
I was thinking she had another name.
David Read:
In “Moebius,” who is the lead scientist of the puddle jumper project?
Enigma:
Was it McKay?
David Read:
That is correct. In “Rite of Passage,” what is the name of the boy Cassandra kisses?
Enigma:
Dominic?
David Read:
Damn, you are on it. What is the point of origin for Atlantis on the Pegasus Stargate? Screw that.
Enigma:
I wouldn’t know the answer to that.
David Read:
It says not answered in the transcript. Whatever.
Jeremy Heiner:
I was gonna say do you even see the answer? What the hell?
David Read:
That’s a definite what the hell. 10-4 good buddy. All right, let’s skip to the next question please. What does Mitchell threaten McKay with to ensure his cooperation in “The Pegasus Project?”
Enigma:
Lemons or citrus or lemon chicken or something.
Jeremy Heiner:
You got it all.
David Read:
Exactly. That’s it. Lemon chicken. He doesn’t threaten him with chicken. I’m gonna have to fix that. All right, at least I don’t think he does. Who voiced Unas in “Thor’s Hammer?”
Enigma:
“Thor’s Hammer?” Crap. James Earl Jones.
David Read:
That’s right.
Enigma:
I was like, “I know it,” and then it disappeared for a second.
David Read:
“I am Unas, the first one.” Not Darth Vader.
David Read:
Why does O’Neill complain that people should know his name is spelled with two Ls in “Secrets?” What’s the explanation?
Enigma:
I don’t remember.
David Read:
“There’s another Colonel Jack O’Neil with only one L. He has absolutely no sense of humor.”
Enigma:
See, I was thinking that and I was like, “Was there a reason or…?”
David Read:
That’s it. According to Rick there is. All right. Which Atlantis episode [buzz] That is not the correct answer. It says “Miller’s Crossing,” God, this thing is horrible. The correct answer is “Midway.” I have a lot of work I have to do before you ..
Enigma:
Should’ve known that.
David Read:
… use it on my website. There we go. Why did Daniel take the newspaper from the airman in the feature film?
Enigma:
Because he saw the constellations on the–
David Read:
Which one?
Enigma:
Specific one?
David Read:
I’ll give it to you either way.
Jeremy Heiner:
It’s Orion.
David Read:
That’s it. All righty. Very good, Jeremy. What’s the name of the cat Sam gave to Narim?
Enigma:
Schrödinger.
David Read:
That’s it. Is that it, Kevin, or is there one more?
Kevin Weaver:
One more.
David Read:
All righty. What was David Hewlett’s personal nickname for the Ancient Personal Shield Gen– You know what? That’s the turtle broach. That’s from an interview that I did with him, I’m not gonna give that one to you, that’s hard. In “Window of Opportunity, how many worlds are in–”
Enigma:
I don’t remember–
David Read:
The Ancient Personal Shield Generator. But he called it the turtle broach. “In Window of Opportunity,” how many worlds are included in the simultaneous link with all the Stargates connected, including Alaris?
Enigma:
13?
David Read:
14.
Enigma:
God.
David Read:
And it should say, “At least 14,” because that assumes we’ve connected to all– It’s possible O’Neill gave us the entire Atlantis database, but it’s not for sure ’cause he wasn’t allowed to finish typing.
David Read:
OK. Very well done. Thank you so much, Enigma. Not my Jèrèmie. Hello, not my Jèrèmie.
Jeremy Heiner:
We meet again. I don’t feel the love.
David Read:
We meet again. You don’t feel the love, so that’s why you’re stuck with the buzzer. So, you can just hammer it out all that you want. Eh, eh, eh. All righty. Ready?
Jèrèmie:
Don’t worry, I love you.
David Read:
Jèrèmie, you good?
Jèrèmie:
Yep.
David Read:
My Jeremy, are you good?
Jeremy Heiner:
Yes.
David Read:
OK, very good. I’ll take that. In “Redemption I and II,” why is the wormhole able to stay open for longer than 38 minutes, not my Jèrèmie?
Jèrèmie:
Because of the weapon that Anubis uses that transfers energy into the gate?
David Read:
That’s exactly correct. Very good. I wrote a treatment explaining why in a novel series called Stargate Oblivion and the beam was accessing a level of the ascended domain.
Jèrèmie:
Really? Cool.
David Read:
But it’s not canon. All right.
Jèrèmie:
I know.
David Read:
Who was Selmac’s host before Jacob?
Jèrèmie:
Saroosh.
David Read:
That is correct, very good. Why was Jack working on a crossword puzzle in his truck while the fate of the world hung in the friggin’ balance?
Jèrèmie:
Why? ‘Cause he wanted to be smarter? I don’t know.
David Read:
Jeremy, what do you think of this answer? Is this answer correct?
Jeremy Heiner:
I don’t actually remember this. I remember the crossword puzzle, but–
David Read:
It doesn’t make any sense. He was waiting for Carter to solve the problem? No. He was working to solve the problem. I need to scrub these.
Jeremy Heiner:
The only crossword …
David Read:
This is just what I get.
Jeremy Heiner:
… puzzle I remember he was doing was when he had the repository in his mind. But am I wrong?
Jèrèmie:
He was doing that before.
David Read:
He was doing the puzzle before. “Sphere, planet, label, name.” “Following still you not.” It was before and after the incident, but he started before. All righty. What is the message that Jack says at the end of “The Nox?” That he repeats, I should say.
Jèrèmie:
That the young one don’t always do what they are told?
David Read:
It’s not “The Nox,” but it’s actually “Enigma.” Sorry, Enigma. These things suck. This is awful. I’m gonna have to fix these. But I will take that as a correct answer. OK. Give me four names for The Ancients.
Jèrèmie:
The Alterans. Of course the Ancients. The Ancestors. I need a fourth one, I don’t know. The Ascended Ones?
David Read:
The Lanteans.
Jèrèmie:
The Lanteans.
David Read:
Close, though. That was a hard one. All right. What was the name of the research station in the Antarctic in “Frozen?”
Jèrèmie:
I didn’t know it had a name.
David Read:
Me neither. White Rock Research Station. That’s correct. Alrighty. How much of the solar system does McKay destroy in “Trinity?”
Jèrèmie:
Depends on who you ask. Three-fourths?
David Read:
Technically, it’s five-sixths.
Jèrèmie:
Five-sixths. Three-fourths.
David Read:
It’s not an exact science. All right. What is the Ancient phrase that means “We are the Ancients?”
Jèrèmie:
Sorry, can you repeat?
David Read:
What is the Ancient phrase that translates to, “We are the Ancients?”
Jèrèmie:
Nou ani Anquietas, something like that?
David Read:
I’ll take it, Nou ani Anquietas. I will take that answer. Kevin, do I have one more?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
Thank you. What PlayStation game is young O’Neill playing in “Fragile Balance?” That is so unfair. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. That’s just… No. No. No. All right. How many actresses played Adria in SG-1, Jèrèmie?
Jèrèmie:
I’m gonna say three.
David Read:
Morena Baccarin, Brenna O’Brien, and Jodelle Ferland. Very, very good. Brenna O’Brien? Who the heck is Brenna O’Brien?
Kevin Weaver:
Isn’t it Robert C. Cooper’s daughter?
David Read:
It’s Emma. It’s Emma Cooper. Emma Rose Cooper. Whatever, man. This thing is gone. At least we can catch it. There we go. More excuses for people to type in the comments and raise the engagement. I’ll take it, fine.
David Read:
Thank you, Jèrèmie. Appreciate you.
Jèrèmie:
Thank you.
David Read:
Károly, are you all set?
Jeremy Heiner:
I have a quick comment.
Károly:
Yes.
David Read:
Hey, how we doing? Say again, Jeremy?
Jeremy Heiner:
I was gonna say, I have a quick comment. We talked about Orion earlier from the constellations and the newspaper. I posted a picture of the Orion Nebula from my backyard. If anyone wants to look at it.
David Read:
Very good. This sent me to… OK, that’s screwed me up. OK. I trust that it’s awesome. We will check it out in a little bit. All right, Károly, you ready?
Károly:
Yes.
David Read:
OK, sweet. Why is David Telford such a jerk during the first season of Stargate Atlantis, or Stargate Universe? Why is he such a jerk during most of the first season?
Károly:
No. It’s not because of–
David Read:
He was brainwashed using the substance Nishta. That came up earlier in the trivia coincidentally. All right. What design do we see on O’Neil’s son’s bed sheets in, I’m guessing, the feature film? It may be “Cold Lazarus.” I’ll take either one.
Károly:
This is such a good– I don’t know.
David Read:
Hieroglyphics. Alrighty. What prompts O’Neill to declare, “Holy frozen bad guys,” in “Watergate?” What does he see when he says that? Jack Nicholson face.
Károly:
Yeah, it’s in the cooling container. Maybourne.
David Read:
Who does he see?
Károly:
Maybourne.
David Read:
Thank you.
Károly:
Maybourne. Yes.
David Read:
Alrighty. There we go.
Károly:
It’s very stupid.
David Read:
Frozen Russians? No, he found frozen Maybourne.
Károly:
No. Maybourne. Yes.
David Read:
God’s sakes. This thing is against me. Moving on. What does O’Neill say to Carter after she kills Seth?
Károly:
No, I don’t remember. Sorry.
David Read:
“Hail Dorothy.”
Károly:
Hail Dorothy.
David Read:
Let’s skip this one, OK, Jeremy?
Jeremy Heiner:
Got it.
David Read:
OK. In Season Four of Atlantis, what premonition does Davos give Samantha Carter in “The Seer?”
Károly:
Atlantis destroyed by Replicator ships.
David Read:
That’s correct. Very well done. In “Point of View,” what is the alternate reality SGC base called?
Károly:
SGA.
David Read:
That is correct. Very good.
Károly:
I don’t know.
David Read:
Who’s the only pilot of Earth ships to appear in all three series?
Károly:
All three?
David Read:
I think he’s actually in Ark of Truth as well.
Károly:
Yeah, I think that– No, not that, no.
David Read:
It’s Major Marks.
Jeremy Heiner:
I love that quote.
David Read:
Is it Marks in Ark of Truth? Which quote, Jeremy?
Jeremy Heiner:
“Major Marks, please make that ship go away.” Shooting out on a Wraith cruiser.
David Read:
“For the record, I’m always ready to launch weapons” or whatever he says. All righty. How many members of SG-1 have there been, not including one-episode members? That’s seven. I’m not gonna give you that one. That’s really rough. All right.
Jeremy Heiner:
So, including “The Fifth Man?”
David Read:
Exactly. Why didn’t John Sheppard succumb to Lucius Lavin’s pheromone in “Irresistible?”
Károly:
Because he was sick.
David Read:
That’s right. Kevin, how many more do I have?
Kevin Weaver:
Two more.
David Read:
OK. What was Teyla’s father’s name?
Károly:
I don’t remember.
David Read:
It was Toran. So, Tagan– It says Tagan but Tagan was her mother’s name. It’s a matriarchal society. OK, very good. In “In the Line of Duty,” what SG team was accompanying SG-1 to Nassya?
Károly:
13? No.
David Read:
SG-6.
Károly:
6.
David Read:
SG-13 only appears in heroes. B3X-666.
Károly:
That was also memorable.
David Read:
It was most memorable. Kevin, is that it?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
All righty, sir. Thank you, Károly.
Károly:
Thank you.
David Read:
We’ll get back to you after these messages.
Károly:
Nice.
David Read:
All right. Markèta.
Markèta:
Hi.
David Read:
Hi. All righty. OK. You’re in the kitchen, right? Fetch me a beer. OK. Here we go. All righty.
Markèta:
I have Guinness, if you will.
David Read:
Ah. There you go. It doesn’t travel either. All right.
Markèta:
I know.
David Read:
What word game is Ford losing at the beginning of “Hot Zone,” Markèta?
Markèta:
Prime, Not Prime?
David Read:
That’s right. Also known as Pick on Ford. That’s right. In “Deadman Switch,” what was the voice command used to open the teltac? Beetlejuice.
Markèta:
Barokna.
David Read:
There you go. It says Baroque. That is incorrect. All right, very good. In “Holiday,” what color are the curtains that covered Machello’s inventions? Talk about esoteric.
Markèta:
Purple?
David Read:
I think you’re wearing it. Is it red? I have to go and have a look now.
Markèta:
Not sure. I guess purple. I don’t know.
Jeremy Heiner:
I would agree with purple.
David Read:
What a dreadful color. OK. Yes. I will take red or purple. I’ll give you that one. Very good. Jeremy, I’m passing on this one. That’s really specific. And the pronunciation is wonky, OK?
Jeremy Heiner:
OK.
David Read:
At the beginning of SGU’s “Pain,” Markèta, Lieutenant James dreams she has killed which member of the Destiny?
Markèta:
I don’t remember.
David Read:
She hallucinates she has killed Matthew Scott. What species provides the chemical Daniel uses to go undercover in the System Lords summit?
Markèta:
Reol. I hope.
David Read:
That’s it. What color were the wires? Of course they’re yellow. All right. Who was the only regular member of SG-1 not to travel to Atlantis?
Markèta:
Vala?
David Read:
Vala traveled to Atlantis in “The Pegasus Project.” Jonas Quinn.
David Read:
Why didn’t McKay go fishing with Carson Beckett in “Sunday?”
Markèta:
Because he promised a lunch with that nice girl, the botanist. What’s her name?
David Read:
Jeremy, I think that was correct, wasn’t it, with McKay?
Jeremy Heiner:
Yeah, he was going on a date.
David Read:
He was going on a date with Katie. I thought that the question was incorrect, but you solved it. Actually, Sheppard couldn’t go fishing with Carson because he was golfing with Ronon, but you pulled my butt out of the fire. Very good. How many more do I have, Kevin?
Kevin Weaver:
Three more.
David Read:
OK. In “Deadman Switch,” what is the name of the drug that Goa’uld made Aris’ people dependent on, Markèta?
Markèta:
I don’t remember.
David Read:
Rashna.
Markèta:
Rashna.
David Read:
Rashna. Which actor appeared in both the Stargate movie and in Stargate Universe? There is one.
Markèta:
No.
David Read:
French Stewart. All right. In “Nightwalkers,” what does Carter say to Jonas when he asks a question she doesn’t want to answer? She does this more than once. “Let’s get some lunch.”
Markèta:
Ah, of course.
David Read:
Is that it, Kev?
Kevin Weaver:
That’s it.
David Read:
All righty. Thank you, Markèta. Martin.
Martin Taichl:
I’m here.
David Read:
Alrighty, Martin, ready to rock and roll here?
Martin Taichl:
We’ll see.
David Read:
We’ll see. What did the team use to find the catacombs of Avalon in “Avalon, Part 1?”
Martin Taichl:
First they scan the Glastonbury with Prometheus, and then–
David Read:
Using what?
Martin Taichl:
Sensors.
David Read:
What kind of sensors?
Martin Taichl:
Sensors on Prometheus, I thought that was Asgard sensors.
David Read:
Asgard sensors. I’ll take it. Yes, Jeremy, I got it.
Jeremy Heiner:
I’m helping.
David Read:
I thank you. Why did the Stargate skip from the SGC to the Antarctic gate in “Solitudes?” What was the excuse determined?
Martin Taichl:
Overcharge because it was hit by the Goa’uld.
David Read:
That’s right, staff weapon fire.
Martin Taichl:
The capacitor blew up.
David Read:
That’s it. What does John ask to eat when he steps into the puddle jumper in “Rising?”
Martin Taichl:
The turkey sandwich?
David Read:
That’s it. That’s a strangely answered …
Jeremy Heiner:
It’s a repeat.
David Read:
It’s a repeat and it’s a strangely phrased.
Martin Taichl:
This question was already given?
David Read:
He wasn’t stepping into it. He was sitting in the chair. All right. How many Zero Point Modules has SGC/Atlantis found and come into– No. Why was Michael given the last name Kenmore?
Martin Taichl:
Because they had to pretend that he is actual human, so they gave him the entire invented persona, including this surname.
David Read:
Why was he given Kenmore specifically?
Martin Taichl:
This one I will skip.
David Read:
It was there on the calendar.
Martin Taichl:
What?
David Read:
Famous vistas of Scotland, and it was Kenmore, Scotland. All right. What piece of Goa’uld technology finally made it onto the screen near the beginning of Continuum answering a longstanding question from “Children of the Gods?”
Martin Taichl:
The automatic dialer.
David Read:
That’s correct. What was Jack O’Neil’s son’s name in the feature film?
Martin Taichl:
Tyler.
David Read:
Correct. In “Spirits,” which SG team was sent to mine trinium on Tonane’s planet, the Salish planet?
Martin Taichl:
Was it SG-5?
David Read:
SG-11.
Martin Taichl:
SG-11.
David Read:
Captain Connor’s team, and they suffered a very bad fate later on. Alrighty. Who created the original spider-form replicators?
Martin Taichl:
Reese.
David Read:
That’s correct. What name did TJ choose for her daughter and who was the baby’s namesake? Either of those answers I’ll take.
Martin Taichl:
No idea.
David Read:
OK. Carmen, after her grandmother. Kevin, how many more do I have?
Kevin Weaver:
I think one more.
David Read:
OK, sweet. I love his casual dismissal of SGU. “I’m just not answering the question. I’m not even gonna try.” All right. In “Out of Mind,” Major General Trofsky informs Jack that he has been in cryogenic hibernation for how many years?
Martin Taichl:
67 years?
Jeremy Heiner:
How close you wanna be, David?
David Read:
Pretty close.
Jeremy Heiner:
Then no.
Martin Taichl:
Or 63.
David Read:
79 years. Is that it, Kev?
Kevin Weaver:
That’s it.
David Read:
Alrighty. Going from the highest score to the lowest, who has what?
Kevin Weaver:
Starting at the most?
David Read:
Yes.
Kevin Weaver:
We have Enigma at 15. We have Martin at 14. We have Markèta and Jèrèmie tied at 11. And Alex and Károly are tied at 5.
David Read:
Perfect. Alrighty. One more round to go, guys, and I have a guest coming on in 30 minutes, so we are gonna chop, chop. Alrighty. Alex, come back in. Have you had a good time?
Alex:
You know what, I’m losing, but I’m having fun talking Stargate with you guys, so that’s all that matters.
David Read:
There you go. That’s all that matters.
Alex:
You don’t get to do that a lot in …
David Read:
Why keep score?
Alex:
… real life. I’m sitting here enjoying this.
David Read:
There we go.
Alex:
Because my wife is sitting here going, “You’re a loser. You’re a loser.”
David Read:
But she chose you. You’re her loser.
Alex:
Off camera when I was muted, she came in with the cold hands to mess with me.
David Read:
It’s cold hands just so long as she doesn’t have a cold heart. All right, here we go. Alrighty.
Alex:
All right, yes.
David Read:
10 more, man. We’re gonna rock and roll them.
Alex:
Do it. Knock them out.
David Read:
In “Scorched Earth,” what is the name of the species that built the terraforming ship?
Alex:
No idea.
David Read:
The Gadmeer. In “Lost City,” what additional country was aware of the Stargate program by “Lost City?”
Alex:
By “Lost City?” Was it China?
David Read:
They added one.
Alex:
China?
David Read:
Canada.
Alex:
Canada.
David Read:
Canada. François Chau played China’s ambassador in “Disclosure.” Alrighty.
Alex:
Cool.
David Read:
What term do the Eurondans sometimes call their enemy?
Alex:
The racist people.
David Read:
Yes, those.
Alex:
I can’t remember.
David Read:
Breeders.
Alex:
Breeders.
David Read:
What did Colonel Young invite Camille Wray to get him for Christmas? I’ll never forget this one.
Alex:
No idea.
David Read:
“In case you’re wondering what to get me for Christmas, I need socks.” All righty. What flavor did Daniel detect in the coffee in “Urgo?”
Alex:
Hazelnut?
David Read:
Chicory.
Alex:
Chicory? OK.
Jeremy Heiner:
What is chicory?
David Read:
It’s a flavor in coffee. “Within the Serpent’s Grasp,” O’Neill utters a curse word cut from the syndicated version. What is the curse word or what are the initials?
Alex:
SOB?
David Read:
Yes. Why did Rodney serve tea to Teyla in “Tao of Rodney?”
Alex:
No idea.
David Read:
To commemorate the anniversary of her father’s passing. Kevin, how many more do I have?
Kevin Weaver:
Two more.
David Read:
Two more. What does the Goa’uld word “orac” mean in English?
Jeremy Heiner:
This is my question.
Alex:
Then you answer it.
David Read:
He can’t. He’s pushing buttons right now. He has no one to talk to.
Alex:
Go ahead and push the wrong button then for me, buddy.
Jeremy Heiner:
There you go.
David Read:
Unspeakable. In “200,” what television series did Martin Lloyd have to admit to Vala he had never heard of? “You got me. I have no idea what that is.”
Alex:
Was it an in-joke about Farscape?
David Read:
That’s it. I’ll take it. All righty. Very well done.
Alex:
Bam. One per round.
David Read:
All right. There you go.
Alex:
Keeping it–
David Read:
Kevin, what does he stand at?
Kevin Weaver:
Six points.
David Read:
Six points. All righty. Thank you, Alex. We’ll see you again.
Alex:
Thank you, David.
David Read:
All righty. Enigma, entre vous. OK, Enigma, here we go. Rock and roll. In “Legacy,” why did Janet Fraiser think Samantha Carter was possessed by a Goa’uld?
Enigma:
Don’t remember.
David Read:
Carter was unaffected by Machello’s Goa’uld-killing organism, unlike Janet Fraiser. She had the little doodads inside of her. All righty. Very good. Or not. OK.
Enigma:
I couldn’t remember the name of the episode. I wasn’t getting the right part. I remember it now though.
David Read:
Absolutely. What was the first episode written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie to air?
Enigma:
I don’t know.
David Read:
“Window of Opportunity.” I think that that’s correct. OK. Thank you. The things that make you go hmm. OK. When Ernest finally catches up with Catherine in “The Torment of Tantalus,” what does he say to her after he says her name?
Enigma:
Didn’t he just go, “Hmm,” and walk away?
David Read:
Very good. Provide two features of the Stargate which were changed from the– That’s way too much information. OK, skip. What name did McKay give Sheppard while drinking beer on the pier of Atlantis? “You’re a good friend, blank.”
Enigma:
Arthur?
David Read:
That’s correct. What is the baseball team on Charlie’s shirt in his bedroom? And that’s Tyler’s shirt, and that’s the feature film.
Enigma:
I’m not gonna get that one.
David Read:
New York Mets.
Enigma:
I wouldn’t have got that.
David Read:
What phrase does Ke’ra tell Daniel, forcing him to realize he’s talking to Linea?
Enigma:
“All debts have been repaid.”
David Read:
I’ll take it. What do Fifth, Chaka, and even Finn all have in common?
Enigma:
They were all played by Dion Johnstone?
David Read:
Very well done, Enigma.
Enigma:
Wasn’t he just on–
David Read:
Wait. It says Fifth, Chaka, and even Finn.
Enigma:
No, that’s–
David Read:
No. Not Dion Johnstone.
Enigma:
Oh, ’cause… Crap.
David Read:
Patrick Curry. I was thinking the exact same thing. And I was like, “Wait, wait, wait, wait. Fifth.” So that was the–
Enigma:
I got stuck on Chaka.
David Read:
All righty. How many more do I have, Kevin?
Jeremy Heiner:
Is that wrong?
Kevin Weaver:
Two more.
David Read:
What’d you say, Jeremy?
Jeremy Heiner:
Is that one considered wrong?
David Read:
No, this one is correct. Fifth was only played by Patrick Curry. Two more, Kev?
Kevin Weaver:
Yes.
David Read:
OK. Who called Hammond Hammond of Texas?
Enigma:
Bra’tac.
David Read:
That’s correct. Who played Orlin in SG-1’s “Ascension?”
Enigma:
I don’t think I know his name.
David Read:
Sean Patrick Flanery. Very good, Enigma. You stand at 19. You are ahead of the pack currently by 6, so congratulations.
Enigma:
I don’t know how.
David Read:
I don’t know how either. It’s not like anyone had access to the trivia or anything.
Enigma:
That didn’t make any difference, honestly.
David Read:
So, what’s Jonas eating when he’s with Teal’c in the cargo ship?
Jeremy Heiner:
Who is it?
David Read:
What’s Jonas eating when he’s with Teal’c in the cargo ship, Enigma? I’m just asking you.
Jeremy Heiner:
I know the answer.
Enigma:
I don’t remember. Was it banana?
David Read:
There we go. Did you really sit there and memorize 700 previous trivia questions?
Enigma:
No, you wanna know what I did? The whole past week, I was listening to all the old trivia episodes while I was working.
David Read:
There we go. There we go. And I didn’t tell anybody whether or not they were gonna be used. All right. Thank you, Enigma. Jèrèmie. Not my Jèrèmie. Hello, Jèrèmie. Hello not my Jèrèmie. You ready?
Jèrèmie:
Yep.
David Read:
OK, here we go. What new substance did the Salish people introduce to Stargate Command?
Jèrèmie:
Trinium.
David Read:
That’s correct. What ritual do the–
Jeremy Heiner:
Whoa. David froze. We lost David. No.
David Read [clip]:
And as you can see, my computer failed. That’s never happened to me before. And I had to actually reconstruct the video that I was using to create this segment because I save as MP4 instead of MKV, and now I know how MKV’s packet system works, and now we are saving in all MKVs. So, that’s a little inside baseball for you. But, the fact of the matter is, all of them impressed me enough that we are moving forward with them into the first full group of Trivia in the very near future here. They’ll be joining a lot of the veterans from previous seasons, and it’s gonna get nuts. It may be a bloodbath. Stargate bloodbath. Appreciate you tuning in. My name is David Read for Dial the Gate, and I’ll see you on the other side.
